last time I heard, he has undetectable viremia (as a lot of people under the antiretroviral drugs do) but that doesn't mean he got rid of it.. if he stopped taking drugs, the virus would be detectable soon again...
the thing is that the HIV virus can be almost eliminated from blood in some lucky patients, but it's still dormant in certain parts of the body and after stopping the drugs, it is replicating very fast again
in this case fron Germany now, I assume this might be the first truly healed person indeed.. I'm sure they made more than just some blood test to determine that he got rid of it
