There needed to be two fronts for Germany to lose. The Allies would have had a near impossible task if there wasn't an Eastern Front, but the reverse is true as well. U.S. entered the war in 1941, the Eastern Front would not have collapsed if Germany didn't have to fight on two fronts. Also the U.S. bombers pretty much crippled the German war machine.

The biggest mistake Germany made was going into Russia...it's too bad many U.S. history books ignore the Eastern Front, but I figure that's the cold war propaganda that was perpetrated on both sides. With that said, the rest of mainland Europe pretty much crumbled to Germany and those same countries would most likely fall again if Germany tried for a third time.

Actually, you might want to check your facts. Like the fact that Stalin and the Soviets were supplying Hitler until middle of 1941. If Germany didn't decide to lose their mind and attack the Soviets...they would have been sitting out this war. The invasion of the Soviet union happened in June 1941.

Also, just because D-Day happened in 1944 that the Allies didn't deal crippling blows to the Germany...specifically destroying the infrastructure to completely stop the German war machine.

As I said, both fronts were needed and both sides should be equally praised, etc, for stopping Germany. You might want to read up on the topic though just to refresh your memory.

Wrong, Soviets were already heavily and steadily scaling back what they were supplying the Germans and had their own plans for launching a war against Germany. Hitler knew that Germany had no chance fighting the Soviets on German soil, but in the vast expanses of Russia and across rough terrain the German military had a significant advantage and had a chance of taking them quickly. Germany had abandoned its plans to invade Britain due to American support propping it up, even though they were essentially bankrupt. If you're interested in history this is an interesting piece to read about what was running through his head throughout.

And personally I don't think the Soviets deserve much credit for liberating Europe. As much as I despise what the modern US has become at least the Americans essentially did liberate the countries they occupied. It is simply a shame that they didn't follow General Patton's advice and immediately attack the Soviet Union. The result of this inaction, and in fact their alliance with the Soviet Union was the Cold War, allowing nuclear weapons to fall into the USSR's hands, 10's of Millions killed under Stalin in concentration camps and purges, the legacy of struggling eastern European states to this day and a very narrow escape from nuclear war. If the Soviet Union had launched a nuclear war people may of thought very differently about what the US did throughout and immediately after WWII. It is by luck that it did not result, and we don't owe the murderer Stalin any thanks.

Interesting point, but I was pointing out that the Soviets weren't involved at the start of the war like RS suggested in 1939. The Soviets were in an uneasy alliance with Germany no doubt...they really couldn't have waged an effective war. Depression, antiquated weapons, and a military that was more or less unorganized, a lot of the experienced military leaders were killed by Stalin...so...they may have thought to attack Germany eventually, but I'd take a guess that it was wayyy down the line.

The first assault basically devasting for the soviets, also, the Allies started to supply the Soviet with military aid, kinda slow at the start, but then substantial support...so yeah, the Soviets wouldn't have been hammering away at the Germans without the allies helping.

The credit I want to give to the Soviets is not their leaders, but the soldiers and civilians deserve credit for the huge losses they sustained, millions dead, and in that regard they should get credit for the second front.

Stalin on the other hand was a piece of shit, he's probably worst than Hitler, and yeah I've read Patton's take on it and you make some good points regarding the cold war. If Patton was listened to and MacArthur later during the Korean War, it would certainly be a different global picture right now.

If China, Russia and N. Korea get together to form the "communist front", as has been predicted by more than a few top defense consultants and was predicted by the CIA four years ago, the world's in deep shit.

The only thing that keeps the US, Europe and the rest of the "civilized" world from being the fierce, un-restrained warriors we used to be and need to be to win this upcoming war is mass media. All three of those countries have media and Internet completely controlled by the government. We don't.

US has indeed the best army in the world and as you can see, they use it intensively to pacificate other areas of the world. Russia was defeated in the cold war and lost at least one decade technologically speaking. Now with the oil price increase their economy will increase faster.
On the other hand, Germany was divided in 1945 and until 1989 it was a conquered country. They had all those plane factories - where are they now? Junkers were making sewing machines while Rolls Royce were making airplane engines. Only after 1990 the Germans could start to rebuild their military. But they has to solve the problem of eastern Germany.

Today's Russia is a different country from the one from 1987 - they are capitalist to the core. Everything is sold and everything is bought - for the right price. They are rising while US is falling. EU has it's own internal problems - they try to expand and to become one big fucken state. However this takes time and resources, and some nations (like France - lazy people) still believe that they can live a nice life without doinga anything. In the meantime China is the only true power that is rising.

US is falling to pieces - when I see what is happening I can't herlp but to think at the roman empire and how it fell. The days of US supremacy are numbered and we will get to a multipolar world where the leading forces will be US, China, EU, Russia.

Moving back to middle east - Israel will blow away the ass of the muslim countries, they are just too advanced. However they will consume tons of resources into war - resources that they can put in the economy. Same thing is happening to US - instead of spending billions of USD in research and development they spend them in a fucken war in Irak. I do not have the figures but maybe the oil US gets from there values more than the expenses.
