I am gonna definatly go with post work.
I got curious and messed around, and grabbed a photo I took my self and did some freaking on it. If I didnt try and replicate it in 10 minutes and gave it a couple days anyone can do this
Its still great looking stuff though for that guy. He gots some real amazing shots.

This is a technique known as High Dynamic Range, or HDR Imaging.
you can google it and see more info but basically its a composite of multiple photos of the same subject taken with different exposures.
