Any point in searching for 3 letter domains?!

Basically I am looking for a 3 letter domain that hasn't already been bought so that I can buy it directly from the domain site for the usual price of $8. Do you think all the different combinations of 3 letter domains have already been bought and registered?

I just don't want to waste my time constantly searching on godaddy by entering random 3 letter domains.
