You'll get ZERO affiliates if you don't take Visa. So even if you're willing to ignore the fact that the vast majority of your sales would have come from Visa, it's hard to ignore the fact that you won't have any affiliates.
if you have the budget for visa, by all means get it. if you don't have the extra $750 to spare, you should probably reconsider launching your paysite at some time when you do, however....
not accepting visa probably won't interfere as much as some would believe. keep in mind the majority of paysite sales eminate from north america and many people here have access to both visa and mastercard. so if you don't offer visa people will just sign up under their MC instead. of course those without MC will be lost to you, and that will be some %.
when I had my paysite setup I had ccbill doing the processing w/o visa (I had just started and was on a tight budget), and then switched to a different processor that offered both visa & mc. the difference between the two was slight. however as volumes increase slight %'s add up...
If the fee is the problem, launch it without Visa to begin with and promote it yourself. The majority of your traffic will have both MC and Visa, so you'll still make sales. I'd say count on losing at least 25% of your potential sales, though.
However, if you're looking for affiliates, you'll need to take Visa.
that $750 is a made up fee anyways. They say it is Visa registration fee. When you have 3 processors, they all ask for $750. Why would u register same site 3 times? doesnot mke sense. These 3rd party processors are just shaving us from the start.

Before you start talking shit, make sure you have at least a little idea of what you're talking about.

I don't work for a processor. I reacted to your comment because it's bullshit and rife with baseless allegations.
First of all, the fee isn't per site. Second, if you process with 3 different processors, then Visa requires you to register with all three. It's not a made up fee. It's been around for nearly 4 years.
Well, I never tried due to lack of time and because I'm doing ok with VISA, but I know there are some portuguese sites that provide passwords via SMS to download a movie or something like that. Knowing the local market I'd say that's a good choice, eg. if I had a site with portuguese as the main language, I'd go SMS. I suspect the same aplies to other european countries.
Anyway, I think VISA and a global site is the way to go
Yeah, for a European site, SMS is a good choice. But SMS is nowhere near that level here in North America.
You're right. An American uses credit card as a regular payment method. Here in Europe Credit Card is only used when you have no money. On the other hand, a typical 10/12 years old kid here in Portugal has a cell phone. I guess that if their parents find out they SMSing for porn, you may get in trouble.
OK, it is per account. If you have more then 1 site, you dont pay each time.
Something is around for 4 years doesnt mean it is not a made up fee. It just doesnt make sense for a site/account to pay same fee and do same "registration" for visa over and over. thats all i am saying.

Actually we all had a secret meeting and decided that $750 was not enough to bother us, but just enough to keep idiots with no money from trying to start a paysite.

Just because you don't understand the reason behind it doesn't mean it's senseless.

So if you go see a movie at a theater, then decide you want to see the same movie at another theater, you don't have to pay again, because you already paid once at the other theater?

why dont you tell us the reason behind it. You seem like a smart girl!
I'll break it down for ya...
You are not applying for Visa registration. Your processor is, for the account they are about to open on your behalf. So everytime you use a different processor they open up a new account and need to get Visa approved for that account.
There is NO way in hell you will succeed without visa. Visa is like 75 % of the sales.
