Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons is forcing it's biggest rival in the region, Saudi Arabia, to do the same (you have likely heard about the deal the Saudis have struck with the US for nuclear technology). It is unlikely that Egypt will sit back and allow itself to be outgunned for long either. The Saudis and the Egyptians will likely declare nuclear capabilities a few months after the Iranians. Iran is likely to share its nuclear technology with its ally Syria. Obviously Israel which is already nuclear will be on constant hair trigger alert as it is surrounded by hostile nuclear powers. With all these opposing factions pointing nukes at each other, the potential for catastrophe is extremely high.
If a nuclear arms race in the most unstable region on earth does not meet your definition of global instability then I am not sure what does.
