It's pretty much the same here. The people most desiring to control other's lives vote. Too many of the people who don't give a shit what others do don't give a shit about voting.Originally posted by Relish XXXIn the UK I really believe that 99% of the people dont give a shit about race or sexuality. It is the 1% that fuck it up though.

In legal areas, advertising areas, entertainment areas (TV-Movies-Adult-Gambling, Clubs), artistic areas (Art-Music-Writing), media print/TV areas, sexual areas straight/and gay, political areas, the list is rather long so I will just say etc. etc.Originally posted by mardigrasThat would be 1955 or so. Other than correcting the discrimination against blacks what new "freedoms" are you referring to?Last edited by Sexxxy Sites; 06-02-2006, 03:40 PM.Comment

Yes, anyone that doesn't agree that gay marriage should be allowed in this country is a bigot. Just like those that supported segregation back in the day were bigots. Plain and simple.Originally posted by Pleasurepaysfunny you are arguing AGAINST generalizations when you and everyone else supporting gay marriage has made such nasty generalizations about anyone who might be opposed to gay marriage... and have even been so stupid as to go further in making arguments about freedom, democracy and so on while making it clear that no one is entitled to an opinion on the subject unless it is your opinion.
just like right now... anyone who doesn't agree on the issue of gay marriage is categorically a biggot. so much for "freedom" in america.
This isn't an abstract "concept" or "opinion", this is a real issue of being treated like a second class citizen that has REAL effects on the day-to-day lives of homosexuals living in this country.Comment

Areas areas areas... Not one specific example? Most of those broad things you mentioned such as advertisement, entertainment and media are markets, not freedoms. A filmmaker had the right to make Brokeback Mountain 20 years ago, but it wasn't until after the success of other gay movies and TV shows that someone decided it had a market. Just because something didn't exist prior doesn't mean there wasn't freedoms for it.Originally posted by Sexxxy SitesIn legal areas, advertising areas, entertainment areas (TV-Movies-Adult-Gambling, Clubs), artistic areas (Art-Music-Writing), media print/TV areas, sexual areas straight/and gay, political areas, the list is rather long so I will just say etc. etc.
And just a slight tidbit... gay people have been making art and politics for centuries

you know the funny thing to me is that almost all of these people that are opposed to gay marriage say they are for legal civil unions. these unions will give gay couples the same legal rights as married couples only they won't be married couple. So basically they are shitting themselves over the word marriage. Amazing. Who someone fucks, marries, loves whatever is non of the governments business and they should stay out of it.
Also, at least you car rest assured that there is more chance of Ted Kennedy getting sober than this thing passing. It would need a 2/3 vote in congress and the senate and then 2/3 of the states would have to aggree to ratify it and that will never happen. This is all just Bush flexing for his base because with approval ratings this low the only people left that like him and support him are the radical religous zealots and he wants to appease them in an election year.Comment

I disagree with you slightly. As long as one supports alternate means for truly securing the legal rights for all I believe that one can oppose having a law passed called specifically "gay marriage" and not be automatically a bigot.Originally posted by BoyAlleyYes, anyone that doesn't agree that gay marriage should be allowed in this country is a bigot. Brokeback Mountain probably could have been made 20 years ago but it could not have been made 50 years ago. Yes some of what I named are markets and were prevented by law, and or practice, from doing much of what those markets do now because the laws have been changed. Fifty years ago sodomy was illegal in most if not all states, as was adultry. Fifty years ago it was difficult to get a divorce, now one can get a divorce just by agreement. Fifty years ago abortion was illegal in most if not all of the states, now it is legal. Fifty years ago, many jobs that are now available to gays, were not available to known gays, but by law they are now available. Fifty years ago a defendant was not always provided an attorney and certainly not one prior to questioning. The list of things that are now allowed, that used to be prevented by law, and or practice, is lengthy. As I stated more freedoms exist now for Americans than existed fifty years ago.Originally posted by mardigrasAreas areas areas... Not one specific example? But there's the problem. People say one thing and do another. Sure if you ask people they will say they support civil unions unless they truly look like they are trying to discriminate, but how many states have civil union bills up for vote? Fewer than are trying to pass legislation banning civil unions.Originally posted by kaneyou know the funny thing to me is that almost all of these people that are opposed to gay marriage say they are for legal civil unions. these unions will give gay couples the same legal rights as married couples only they won't be married couple. It goes much deeper than just Bush... it's a coordinated springboard for the midterm elections all across the country.Originally posted by kaneThis is all just Bush flexing for his base because with approval ratings this low the only people left that like him and support him are the radical religous zealots and he wants to appease them in an election year.

If you take the issue out of the context of a political wedge (a mistake I think since it takes attention away from real issues), then it's not about keeping the constitution the SAME, it's about BARRING gays from being legally married. It's about ammending the constitution to take a right AWAY from some people.
Now remember, NO state has EVER been forced to recognize any married couple from any other state. AND, that has never been challenged beyond any one state.
In other words, it is NOT a national/federal issue. It just gets talked about during runups to elections as a wedge issue. Thats what it's about, thats all it's about in real world terms! If it was not brought up on TV by the right wing near election times, it would not be an issue beyond cities and county and state governments, EXACTLY like it already had been forever! lol43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

Yep, you are right. Bush starts the ball rolling and the other conservatives will jump on board and use the platform for their own campaigns. This gives them good ammo because even when the bill gets shot down they can go home and say, " see I tried to help pass a law to ban gay marriage, but those evil liberals shot us down."Originally posted by mardigrasIt goes much deeper than just Bush... it's a coordinated springboard for the midterm elections all across the country.

ok... i am a bigot i guess. you know nothing about me, what i believe and why but whatever. its a problem for gays. its your problem... fight your fight... but you should do yourself a favor adn be smart enough to understand that you won't win by attacking everyone who is not like you ... you will win by intelligently stating your case and gaining the support of those who are not like you because you were able to help them see things from your perspective and understand the problem through your eyes.Originally posted by BoyAlleyYes, anyone that doesn't agree that gay marriage should be allowed in this country is a bigot. people don't tend to sympathize with simple minded and defensive pricks... and as it stands, you have to pursuade those people you hate and you just can't do that with more hate.
arguing about it just to impress those who already agree with you as an exercise in self affirmation is not going to help change the law either.

Move to Australia, problem solved. While ya we have a % of nutjobs, and a PM that likes to have rumpety pumpety with Bush, he's on the way out. I see a lot of decent changes coming in over the next few years. It'll take a bit to fix all his fuckups first, but they can't do a worse job then it already done.

The good thing about being a boardwhore and not a politician is that we don't HAVE to tolerate your stupidity. We don't have to persuade you of anything. Besides, if you were smart enough to assess and consider your flawed opinion with an option of changing it, that would mean you have an open and active mind. Since you're a republican, we can pretty much discard that option entirely right off the bat. People like you can't be persuaded, you can only be supressed and marginalized like you were before the bible thumpers came back to power. Go back to the Ozarks, you hillbilly.Originally posted by Pleasurepaysok... i am a bigot i guess. you know nothing about me, what i believe and why but whatever. its a problem for gays. its your problem... fight your fight... but you should do yourself a favor adn be smart enough to understand that you won't win by attacking everyone who is not like you ... you will win by intelligently stating your case and gaining the support of those who are not like you because you were able to help them see things from your perspective and understand the problem through your eyes.

You are such a faggot. G F Y .Originally posted by BoyAlleyYes, he's fucked up just about every aspect of this country from the economy, to our civil liberties, to international relations, responses to natural disasters, immigration issues and border security, the list goes on and on and on and on.
He has some of the worst polling numbers in our country's history.
What's he going to do? Bring down gas prices? Cut spending to reduce the deficit? Come up with an exit strategy for Iraq? Stop warrentless wiretaps?
FUCK NO! He's going to start bashing the faggots again!
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/06/....ap/index.html
If this doesn't work for him, maybe he'll try to appeal to his "conservative" base in the south by suggesting that getting rid of segregation was a bad thing, and that n1ggers shouldn't be allowed to use the same waterfountains and bathrooms as good decent white american families, and that n1ggers and jews shouldn't be allowed to corrupt our society by marrying our country's white women folk.
Asshole.
