Overall, a nice layout. Just a few comments:
1. To me, things feel too bunched up. I would give things a little more space around them to help visually separate things or use some boxes/dividers.
2. In the right column, I would put the "1. partner gallery" below the thumbnail and use more descriptive text instead of "partner gallery". I'm guessing it's a placeholder right now.
3. In the header graphic, perhaps create some kind of cool background instead it being transparent; have the toon's head be above the box so she's not totally inside it; put a reflection below her to give it some depth.

I agree with GeorgiaAsphault (cool header btw, nice how it looks like her hand is wrapped around it!) that it is a little cluttered...So, how do you solve that?
Well, you could increase the spacing, and play with coloring. The yellow color is used quite a bit, and it begins to "run" into each other, making it hard for your eyes to focus. Yellow is generally used as an "attention getter," so it's kinda hard for the surfer to focus.
Also, how exactly does the "number viewing" work? Better to have nothing, or some number, than 0.
Overall, I think it'll be a winner!

Just copying and pasting portions of her body over the horizontal bar and erasing parts of the layers so the bar runs into her. Because I don't have the original files you can see the background tile is messed up. Plus the reflection isn't ideal. You should scoot her down so she's laying directly on top of the gray area, then move the reflection down so it's completely on the gray.
It would've taken too long to do without the original files. This was just to give you an idea
Very true! Right along the lines of what I was thinking! To expand a little further, you've got those 110x150 thumbnails in between the rows of the 3 larger thumbnails - put more space above and below the row of 110x150 thumbs. Maybe put them in a different colored box.
I would also put a different colored box behind the right column to separate it a bit more and put a little more spacing between below the "free hardcore" and the thumbnail below it. Maybe make the background color a dark gray and switch the text color to white. Pull the gray from one of the shapes in your background tile.
For example, look at espn.com. Though it's a 3 column layout, the far right column is black, whereas the other two (or for your site the one) columns are white and tan.

I see what you mean about the colors. For something like this I lean towards keeping "content" colors (box backgrounds) neutral (black, white, grays) so the focus is in on the photos. It also helps keeps the site from appearing cluttered and overpowering (IMHO). I uploaded a screen shot with altered colors and some minor comments. Easier to explain this way.

I do like the idea of categories. Even with the tags below the monster thumbnails, you can make each row the same category and add a header above them. But categories can get a bit tedious if you don't keep them broad enough. This is a tough call. Could go either way.
Here is a better version of the header. I was bored so I cleaned it up and added a few extra touches.

I've also uploaded the PSD of the header so you (and anyone else interested) can see how I did it. I'll admit, it's a bit clunky how I went about it, so altering certain aspects is more difficult than they should be. But the end result is the same.

I was struggling with that issue as well. I played around with some simple tricks and other colors, but I kept running back to mamma (the color white) because, to me, adding more color looked too busy. I tried a different color in the box above the jumbo thumb and I felt like it separated it too much from the thumb below. Those 4 boxes are all related and are really a single item, coloring one of the boxes felt like it was taking away from that relationship.
What looked best other than white was using a VERY light color (another light gray, yellow, blue, purple). But I preferred the white because it doesn't compete with the content. It's a judgment call and you should go with what you like best. It should be an easy thing to mess around with and I encourage you to do so.
A couple simple ways to add some more color:
1. Put 1 pixel link borders around some of the thumbnails and change the colors of the links. I don't know how much of a pain in the ass this would be, but you could remove the white box from behind the jumbo thumbnails and just have a 1 or 2 pixel border around them or none at all. To do that you'll need to adjust the width of all the other boxes or resize the thumbnails accordingly.
2. Change the color of the background tile. I'd keep that a dark color, probably purple. When selecting colors, use the header as guide.
By no means am I saying to do that. Just some ideas to play around with.
When selecting colors, they should be from the palette you're using (purple, blue, pink, gray/black). That red and green you're using doesn't really mesh with the color palette you're sportin.
The only other things I would do is put that dark gray box from behind the 110x150 thumbs behind the 120x60 banners too.
