how hard is it to install tv wall mount?

I have a small 13" toshiba tv its a crt. Its takes up too much room on my desk. Was thinking of mounting it on the wall. Is it something I can do myself or should I hire someone?

like everyone said, get a stud finder. Your local hardware store should sell them for about 20-30 bucks. I bought one but i think it was broken, all it did was beep and point to me

            ;)

I just put a 50" Plasma on the wall in my bedroom. Used a stud finder with a laser on it, and another laser with a level so I drilled the holes the same height in the wall.

Drilled the first 2 holes, mounted the bracket on the wall loosely so I could mark and drill the bottom 2 holes. Screwed the bolts in nice and tight with a ratchet. Then I put the other part of the mount on the TV with the included bolts, had my girlfriend help me lift the tv up & onto the mount on the wall. Took maybe 30 - 45 minutes total.

Either tonight or tomorrow I will run the HDMI cables and the power cord inside the wall so they cant be seen. I expect that to be harder and take longer than putting the tv itself on the wall.

Very easy to do. I have done it with 3 TV's in our house. Looks nice and clean.. yeah, just hide those cables in the wall and it looks oh so pretty.

use an impact drill if u can, makes it a whole lot easier to get the bolts into the stud

Are you high? An impact drill would be a very bad idea and I mean very bad. Besides potential damage to the drywall it could also cause the stud to crack or split.

Normal drill, drill pilot hole first and then add your screws/bolts. Try not to over tighten so that you collapse it into the drywall.

                                          i hung a 46" no problem,

the mount even came with a studfinder (i already had one though)

problem is i had to let my girl use the stud finder, every time i touched it it would go off

Easy stuff. You can even buy a good mount from ebay. Make sure that you have a good stud finder. If you are afraid that it may be off you can always use small finishing nails to make sure that the stud is in the center. It's one thing you dont want falling off your wall ;)

if you dont have a stud finder just use a drill and a small 1/8 th inch drill bit to find each side of the stud then go for the center of the two with the lag bolt, pre drill the lag bolt hole

then the rest of the studs should be every 16" on center if your house is built to code

yeah cuz i ended up having to open up the wall to re-wire my cable connection cuz of a bad cable inside the wall, the stud is in perfect condition

i wouldnt have said no damage if there had been

It's easy. Just find the studs, mark the holes, make sure the marks are level and screw the plate to the wall. Don't mount it too high though because looking up will hurt your neck and it sucks having to redo it.

The mount for the 13" would be even more easy, since it will probably just go into one stud.

Tony, it's an easy process. Do not use an impact drill (dumbest shit i've ever heard). An impact drill is for MASONARY

Stud finder or just tap on the wall, very easy to hear the difference. Such a small tv would be finee with wallmates - they are plastic plugs that support 20 to 30 kilos a piece.

Even though that tv is small and a lot cheaper than most, I would be very careful.

We are renting this house while we look for something to buy. The place is built of block like most in the area. When we moved in, the wife wanted to hang some of our paintings. a few of which are very freakin heavy. did all the drilling put in the anchors, and all, and one ripped a hole in the weak spot of the block. Lucky it fell and hit an empty chair and did not break anything. But left a hole in the wall.

I dont tend to hang thigns heavy unless I know a lot about where I am hanging them.

Screen room builders use them a lot for mounting shit onto concrete slabs and walls.

Good for hurricane season also if your trying to board up your windows on a CBS home.

For a small tv no problem mounting the mount right to the cement wall.

If it's a larger TV I would mount two 2 x 6's to the wall first with a generous amount of Tapcons, then attach your mount to the 2 x 6's with some lag bolts.
