Why do people flake out so often?

I would agree if I was the one contacting her and asking for help. Instead, she's the one who contacted me! I wasn't asking anything of her, she was supposed to come by, check out my house, and give me a full quote. It was her idea!

Would you expect anything but flakiness?

Unbelievable, I know!

Some people think "service" is just the promising-to-do part --

They think they somehow get credit for the things they tell you they WILL DO, so much so (as in your example) that they proactively initiate "service opportunities" for themselves --

may be they are changing their mind, but are not capable to say that to you straightly. Here in Ecuador all people are like this. If you ask where is some street they will show you the wrong dirrection. You become mad at them. If you don't know - why you show the direction?
