          Think about it, any half established webmaster will ask his mates or contacts about a sponsor before joining not click a sig and hope for the best.

          Thats my view anyway.......

              I hear ya. Clearly, it's not about getting people to click on a sig and join. But, if we consider the money spent on "branding" in other markets, for which the ROI is always more difficult to measure, couldn't it be viable then?

                      Sure it is viable, but I believe a strong business model can always rely on word of mouth rather then what I would call forced marketing.

                      I call it forced marketing for the simple fact a user is told to check out this sponsor, advertiser whatever.

                                      I was just discussing a related topic with a colleague earlier today. We realized there is a whole assortment of "traditional" marketing activities that have been neglected by e-marketers, simply because we have tended not to spend on things where the ROI cannot be ascertained with precision. Hmm --

                                          sigwhoring kills forums indeed, when people post just to get more post-count, i sold my sig, but i don't spam.. so that's cool... ya?
