Have you ever dated your ex husband or wife?

I'm seriously thinking of asking my ex husband out on a date. Has anyone else done this?? How did it work out? We where married 10 years, been divorced for about 5 years. He's still my best friend! After my last really bad break up, he came over every night to give me a hug and made sure I was ok. We had our problems, but I really miss him. Anyone else been in this situation?

Nothing wrong with that. But be carefull when you are going further, before you know you are irritated by the small things you were irritated for before...
            And yes, I did that
Just some dating is absolutely perfect... falling in love again too...
But when we tried to start again, and lived together for a while, it just all came back and we broke up again...
Every person and situation is different however. So you can be in luck, and it will go right all along. So, Good luck, and enjoy the date

I was married when I lved in New York. Moved to SF (divorced) in '98. I went back a year later to NY for business. I said what the fuck, I gave her a call. She was shocked I called. But we made a date. We met for dinner, and in the beginning it was pretty tense. What broke the ice was she finally half-mocked stabbing my hand with her fork. By the time I paid the bill I knew we were gonna go to her place and fuck. I had brought home some tripy ass Sausalito type music with me and I played it for her. We fucked and sucked and beat the shit out of each other all night, like we never had when we were married. Mind you, I married this girl for the GREAT SEX --

I would never ask my ex-wife in a date. We are friends, but when the show is over, say good-bye and move on. Nothing good might happen, IMO. Older wounds open, future becomes past, for what? Move on, life is great, don't be weak.

I not only dated, but lived with my ex-wife for a time more than 3 years after our divorce.

It was fun while it lasted.

                      Go for it.

I just had a brief revisitation of my marriage. Friends for 11 years, dated for one year, married for four years, separated for a year, then a few months of living together again and I hate him all over again. But my ex fell back on his same old pattern..stopping working, not compensating by picking up the pace with the house/kids, spending more and more time away, and finally lying about what he was doing. *kicked to the curb* I can support myself BY MYSELF now, lol, so I didn't take it for four years like I did before. Two weeks and he's out, lol.

I dated my ex-wife. We were married for three years while I was in the Marines. She was bi-sexual long before it was popular for women to be so. I left her when I left the Marines, and once I settled into San Fran she moved out with the intention of getting me back. (Silly her!) She was wild and we had a great time for nearly six months, but my interests were elsewhere. The sex was great, her girlfriend moved out to San Fran and sex was greater, but still it wasn't there for me.

In case honey you need to stay away from your ex.

I moved on from my ex and ex's. There has to be a reason why you broke up in the first place - remember that. Saying that - all relationships are different, and if you still feel the spark and that you may have moved on from whatever problem was there to begin with, there is nothing wrong with trying again - but just make sure that you're not fooling yourself or that you won't find anyone else if this doesn't work out - worse thing is to get into a relationship over need or desperation.

I guess it depends on the marriage. I went out with my first wife once after we split up, it was good. We had a nice time and it gave us both some positive closure.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Perhaps you and he will both realize that the differences you had when you were younger and married were not reason enough to consider spending your lives apart from one another.

Or, perhaps you'll both be validated in your decision and realize that you're better off just being friends.

Of course, you'll never know it until you try it. So go for it. What have you got to lose? Well, you DO have to consider losing him as a friend, so beware of that.

The idea that you shouldn't make a life decision based on what one doesn't want (being alone), as opposed to what one wants, is great in theory...but much harder to practice.
