That bill sounds backwards. Why not track ALL urls that ANY customer of an ISP visited, and work backwards from any CP site you find?
Make too much sense? Nobody thought of it? "protecting children" really means "procuring votes"?

jesus.. I think labeling is wrong, cause it just sticks us all in one barrell with "shoot me" written on our foreheads, but at the same time if I were a parent I would appreciate a porn site to be identified as such so I can block em. Thin line between free speech and societal responsibility..
But all this is moot since it will only affect US webmasters and it will just make the damn foreigners that much more money and traffic when they completely ignore the new US laws.
Imagine a porn industry run by Germans, Asians, and Mexicans.. Lots of Chicks spurting diahreah sucking off donkeys while some nazi craps on their face.

I couldnt agree more. you dont see europeans complaining about it. nudity is all over the place there and everyone is just fine.Originally posted by phyponThe attacks made towards the industry are entirely fucked up. To me it seems agenda based and not result based. There are parental tools out there. If they are not good enough make better ones. Instead of fucking with constitutional issues and taking on the Internet or world net, let the parents start parenting.
The same shit happend with tv and the v-chip. When will society as a whole start taking responsibility and accountability for it's actions, or lack of actions, instead of passing the buck onto others? I think that the fact that people feel they are not responsible for anything they do (or do not do, ie. parenting) is one of, if not, THE fundamental probles we face in the US.
Too many confilicts of interest. Too much 'me, me, me'. A handful of people bitch about something (not necessarily this specific thread issue) and the world has to stop for them.

John Ashcroft had very similar sights on internet porn as Gonzales but it went on the back-burner after 9/11. You don't have to take anyone's words for it, go back and dig up what he said.
As far as what is happening now, I'm surprised if anyone is surprised, Gonzales has been very public about his intentions all along. Most of what they are trying to do now we disccussed here at GFY 7, 8 months ago.
Dude, are you actually trying to discuss this with someone like the guy you quoted? He's a pornographer, or at least pretends to be, who blindly supports the Bush administration on nearly every issue he can cram into his child sized brain. There is no reasoning with people like this, don't waste your time. Even the most bulletproof reasoning will bounce right off of people like this and they'll revert to their "talking points". For example, whenever industry people are discussing the hell being brought down on us by this administration, the sheep "talking point" is to say that democrats are just as bad against porn as republicans. You'll see it in EVERY thread on this subject by the same 15 or 20 token GFY republicans who don't know their asses from the prison cell xanax was in. Obviously it's completely false and has no basis in reality, but that's not what matters. To these people, as long as they can say SOMETHING that allows them to justify their support of these maniacs in their own heads, they're happy.
What I'm saying is, don't waste your time. If these people were reasonable or had the slightest shred of common sense, they wouldn't be pornographers who support Christian conservatives in the first place. That's like homosexual Jews for Hitler.Comment

Who the fuck said the net was for kids?
I'm sick of everything being reduced to the lowest common denominator or having to be child proof.
Gun advocates are forced to defend ALL gun regulations just to keep legislation from slowly taking away every gun. Stories about children using their parents guns are the rallying point. The latest ploy .... every trigger has to have a child-proof safety mechanism.
You can't smoke in a strip-club ... You can't smoke in a bar/restaurant. All logical arguments about freedom of choice and the right to open a business in America went out the window when "child safety/second hand smoke" became part of the issue ..... (the owner of our local cigar bar was told to loose his investment and close his business)
Our state has routine roadblocks to make sure children are in safety-seats ... Those of us without kids are then asked if our cars can be searched!
Tough anti c/p laws are on the books for offenders. SO FIND AND PROSECUTE THEM! Instead law abiding, tax paying business owners are being regulated out of business.
This thread is NOT to argue about guns or smoking. Or porn. It's to show the link between adult Americans ... issues they feel strongly about, choices they are by law allowed to make .... and how "for the protection of children" laws are rammed down our throats and freedom is lost.
Who the fuck said the net was for kids?

The other nasty little detail is - if eg.. a US webmaster (US citizen) commits an offense while in another country - not necessarily any actual offense against the host country - but against US law, they have a tendency to be on a US Marshall flight back to the US to stand trial. In the house energy and commerce committee where Paul Cambria was on the panel, the committee told Cambria to take back a message to the industry... self-label or congress will do it.
These proposed bills have a good chance of becoming law because it just feels right to congres.... movies have labels, video games have labels, mobile phones are using labeling, etc.
Self-labeling is not hard to do, and many sites already do it. A law just means you have to do it, if in the US.
FSC can surely mount their challenges to such a law.
Now the ramifications of labeling can be drawn out to the theories that now the government can clamp down on porn by pressuring ISP to block, rather than trying to make a law that outlaws porn outright.... i seriously don't see the ISP angle... ISP make money in selling b/w, which porn is the big driver for it.
Adult websites should be registering their URL's to blocking systems like netnanny, cybersitter, etc.. and using labeling systems like ICRA....and to do so VOLUNTARILY.. but given congress' agenda, it will just be mandatory, sites will label, and business will go on.
All those up in arms about this mandatory labelling, how many of you spoke out against .XXX?
