I don't start many threads on GFY, but all the news I've been hearing lately is really starting to bother me. Many people I talk to are moving processing, hosting, anything they can out of the US to seperate themselves from the anti porn attack.

Scary shit going down, this is only going to get worse in the coming years.

Yep the bible bashers are moving in and fast, certainly moving stuff to EU will be the plan for many adult companies in the coming years.

If you're still doing business with americans, wouldn't you still have to follow US laws regardless of where you live?

The US can't set laws for people outside the US, they do not regulate the internet.

The US government sets laws for their people.

Since these kinds of little threats have been going on for 20 years in congress I would say the major problem is with the news services glamorizing the shit - lets see - last year how many amendments were proposed in committees - and approved - and then made it to the floor of either the senate or house of reps - and all got voted down. There have been these types of articles all year this year too - and every one of them was voted down after they came out of committee

If you cant report real news - lets take a little tidbit and make a huge "sky is falling" news article and get it circulated around the web

thank you for posting this Dave - though I feel it is wasted on the webmasters / surfers who would rather watch their company fall apart than admit that Bush or the Republicans are wrong. It's more than a political party than it has turned into a christian cult - and those of us left who do honest business in the adult industry are made to suffer because of the stubbornness of those put the letter (R) at the end of their name.

one last point - sadly the US does feel they own the internet and will bully their way around any world wide legal system to get their way

Well I hope your right, honestly really do. But it's not just the proposed laws its the inditements, it's the other attacks on adult with not so direct roots but changing a law here and there that in a round about way affects us all.

Once the government has cleaned out all the companies that are to extreme hardcore porn then will they stop at that? Or will they start going for the not so extreme hardcore porn?

Where will it stop? WHo is the next Inditement going to be on???

Right now most of the companies under attach people can see WHY they were indited, but in say 2-3 years we may be saying to each other, what they hell did they do to get charged and be scratching our heads.

How many are there - I can only thing of two - one that happened because of local laws - not federal and the other a test case thats been going on for years on the federal level - Im not including the 2257 thing because that (in my mind anyway) was done for a completely different reason and is still in the test phase as well
/added - I guess that thinking back there was one other case back in the BBS days that was federal - that caused a change in the way we thought at the time - but that was all about entrapment and interstate transport

I've been posting on this and related here for a couple years now. It's actually a very small number of people putting and keeping big wheels in motion.

I'd love to find some of the posts where a couple of the board's biggest professed administration supporters ridiculed my posts on upcoming attacks on internet porn. These days they are busy arguing about other things that they will eventually be shown wrong on...

How about paying attention to the present.

How blind does one have to be to not see that a whole plethora of base rallying issues are being paraded to not only placate the county's conservatives up until election time, but to not lose the chance to take advantage of numbers they could potentially not have after elections? They are making up lost ground with "the base" and the smallest bit of "conservatism" written into law will secure votes from some who may be drifting.

John Ashcroft had very similar sights on internet porn as Gonzales but it went on the back-burner after 9/11. You don't have to take anyone's words for it, go back and dig up what he said.

As far as what is happening now, I'm surprised if anyone is surprised, Gonzales has been very public about his intentions all along. Most of what they are trying to do now we disccussed here at GFY 7, 8 months ago.

it also depends on the nature of the crime being committed. That is why there are multi jurisdictional police organizations such as interpol.

Nah Clinton was the porn king, and waved his magic porn wand all across the land. lol If people would actually look and see who pens most of these bills, and what party they are members of might open a few eyes.

After all it was Bush that slapped Explicit lyric labels all over our music right?

We have talked about this 100 times not porn friendly but its not job one. During clinton porn grew in leaps and bounds because it wasnt seen as a priority.in fact his attorney general said we have better things to do with our resources then go after adult pornography. The biggest crack down on porn this nation has seen was during Nixon and Reagan. Guess what those two presidents had in common? Republicians! We told the republician porn industry fools this is a bad thing but they knew better. I will tell you a theory I think why these smaller companies are being bought by big corporations like playboy is they want the protection of a big corporation if the shit comes down hard.

To me, that's the best type of government enforcement we could hope for. Every adult site should already be labeled, it should be our duty as a sexual-oriented site. They actually saw something our way and threw out .xxx. From that to just self labeling should be soon as a BIG win for us I think. When parents set limits on their browsers, shouldn't our web-sites should contain those tags that respect those limits?

If that allows libraries and schools to block porn, then so be it. But we've seen them attempt this lose from what I remember. Maybe I'm an idiot for thinking the govt's plan isn't to destroy us after we label our sites by infultrating a porn block attack code on all of society.

They've had some real shitty plans in the past, and thankfully they've failed. Now when they actually propose us to do something we should already be doing (correct me if I'm out of line here), how can we really complain? To me, it appears anything the government tries, our industry is going to find a reason to call it a conspiracy to shut us all down. I might be a lone sole in thinking this, but I don't ultimately think that's their intentions. Govt knows by now they can't shut down porn. They're trying to answer to screaming parents, and this is actually a solution that should help families keep unwanted smut out of their homes.

But I also dont see that this will help block anything unless an ISP or browser decides to incorporate it too. Or if the parent is knowledgable enough to make use of it.

If parents knew how to manage their HOSTS file, it'd be simple as it is now. They havent gotten it into their heads yet (I dont think) that the ONLY people the legitimate adult businesses want on their websites, or in their stores, or ordering their videos, are Credit Card holding adults. It's all about money.

The criminals peddling the illegal stuff arent going to label anything, arent going to be can-spam compliant, arent going to care if they have illegal material on "pokemon.com" or any of the other things. And they certainly arent going to be paying taxes either.

So in that sense, if they require a label, and legit companies use it, it could make it easier to track down the non compliant illegals (I suppose)

AOL's parental controls are even more in yer face and easy. I'm guessing every modern browser has them built in. Labeling is actually very parent-friendly! All they need is for us to come together and label already.

To me it seems agenda based and not result based. There are parental tools out there. If they are not good enough make better ones. Instead of fucking with constitutional issues and taking on the Internet or world net, let the parents start parenting.

The same shit happend with tv and the v-chip. When will society as a whole start taking responsibility and accountability for it's actions, or lack of actions, instead of passing the buck onto others? I think that the fact that people feel they are not responsible for anything they do (or do not do, ie. parenting) is one of, if not, THE fundamental probles we face in the US.

Too many confilicts of interest. Too much 'me, me, me'. A handful of people bitch about something (not necessarily this specific thread issue) and the world has to stop for them.

Sounds good in theory, but you have to take in consideration some companies will buckle under minimal pressure.

An example in a similar line... before NYPD Blue even premiered a local ABC was mobbed with complaints from a single group threatening boycotts. Logic would dictate that the station would make more money from the majority of viewers who didn't complain but they made the decision to not air the show, and never did during it's entire run.
