RSS2BLOG v. AutoBloggerPro (privacy discussion)

One thing that I like about plain old wordpress, is that I can go there, grab the latest code and work on my own shit and nobody's the wiser. I make my sites, do my mods, and it's nobody's business. The one thing that troubles me about these 2 scripts is having to disclose what I am up to and what I have planned for the site.

Do both RSS2BLOG and ABP require that I tell them the domain I'm going to be installing on?

Apologies if the question is old, or has been answered.

When logged into the AutoBloggerPro members area you list what domains you're installing it on in order for the archive to be generated to used. The archive will only work with the domains it's licensed to. This data is kept private.

short answer with R2B is no...

longer answer...R2B doesn't call home at install or later, not even for updates. So once you have an authorized download, you are free to put the script wherever you want. It is not tied to the WP install and doesn't even have to be on the same server.

For total ninjicity use common sense and choose an install directory like /ilovechicorolls rather than /rss2blog to avoid any possible directory scanning exploit seeking mofos.

So how does that work exactly? I tell them a domain name when I buy, but then can put anywhere?

you just fill in your info like it shows here:

and it basically acts like a human posting to that specified blog for you

yes...you install it on one domain and control an unlimited amount of blogs from that one single install....the only person that knows what is in that admin is you

right now I am controlling 18 blogs with my one single install

RSS2Blog has features ABP doesn't, such as posting to other blogs (not for much longer). Both serve different purposes and have different features. ABP allows for a few things RSS2Blog does not. Both are great products and have different approaches to the mass production of blogs.

I do have to say though, RSS2Blog needs to improve upon their support, when I was an RSS2Blog customer, it took me 2 1/2 weeks to get a reply that my download was corrupt. Not cool ...

wow, I honestly have never had to wait longer than 3 hours or so....Michelle is pretty damn quick with the replies these days
