In theory you are correct. Though in reality and in many parts of the world, especially in South East Asia, Buddhists are fucking cruel to not only each other but animals. The problem is, too many of them simply follow Buddha because they were born into it and don't know any other way. They don't really follow the peaceful teachings of Buddha.
