Makes me wonders two things..
1. How many of those buildings are close to capacity vs empty.
2. How much are they paying the Religious extremist to keep the terrorist out? You know damn well with all that western influence that is going on in Dubi, it has to piss off the tango's. The first major terrorist attack that happens there and it's... say good bye to the tourism dollars. In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

The entire reason they are building all this stuff, is to build up the tourism dollars. The King of Dubai is one of the few middle eastern leaders that understands the oil will eventually run out.
He is trying to turn his country into the hot spot of the middle east to attract western tourism dollars. That's the reason behind all the crazy stuff they are building. He's using the oil dollars to hopefully build a future revenue for the country before the oil runs out.Last edited by crockett; 09-03-2008, 08:36 AM.In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

They are very much depending on tourism dollars especially now the oil is running out. You think they build all these cool buildings for the sake of it? They also invest heavily all around the world in property and buisnesses.☻Comment

Dubai's oil reserves have always been a fraction of those in Abu Dhabi, and today they account for less than 10% of Dubai's income. Dubai's known oil reserves are scheduled to run out by around 2010.
I think tourism and financial market place are the new income streams.Comment

And they are attracting alot of business to relocate there because there is NO TAX. This is why they are building all the tall buildings, for offices etc for the big new companies that move there.Comment

Dubai is also a very small country. They have to build skyskrapers otherwise they'd run out of space pretty soon.Comment

according to wiki:
"Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years"
So not 2010 and that does not mean they do not make money from it.. dont forget the gas prices today. But you are right it makes only 6% of their income.no sig, sorry

"Real Estate and Construction (22.6%), Trade (16%), entrepôt (15%) and financial services (11%) are the largest contributors to Dubai's economy. "

They will have to depend on tourism in 20 years because they will run out of OIL, this is why Dubai is building like crazy now.Comment

That would seem the intelligent guess at first. The entire reason they are building all this stuff, is to build up the tourism dollars. The King of Dubai is one of the few middle eastern leaders that understands the oil will eventually run out.

But if you look at history....insane men with wealth really only want 1 thing....to be in the history books.
By building this massive wonder of the world, he will be forever in the history books.
A "ROME" in the desert appeared from nothingness in the desert, brought up by the great ruler "So & So".
If you look at it from that angle, you'll see he doesn't much care about his citizens
Only in future history maybe Rome will be replaced with "Dubai" & war will be replaced with "Financial takeover"Comment
