Televangelists often thrive after admitting they have done something like fucking underage boys or getting gangbanged by trannies - just as long as they repent. Dubya got elected despite his troubled past and drug use.

"Female governor has underage daughter who becomes pregnant, but the daughter keeps the baby, and the governor goes on to become VP." It reads like a made-for-tv movie.

My guess is that's what the McCain campaign is going for - an image of being "real people", with real problems that many voters can relate to. It could well help in making them seem less detached from the reality blue-collar voters often deal with.
