need to process VISA from canadian based site

any suggestions, ccbill which we (pleasingkayla.com) are with now, only allows visa for US based companies. since visa holds such a huge share of users we need a visa merchant account, $750 i believe.

    thanks for any help

Give Verotel a try. They don't require that Canadian webmasters have a US presence in order to process Visa.

darkcoast, im going over the same problem myself, maybe an answer is getting your own merchant account from visa, and therefor ccbill can use that info?

btw, where are you in canada, and do you have a US corp, or are is the site/company based in canada?

Hi Darkcoast and Sicus...just wondering if either of you ended up choosing a processor yet.

Securenetshop certainly sounds interesting, but they claim to be able to set you up with a merchant account for $0. Sounds too good to be true. Anyone other than PrivatePeeps have any experience with them? (No offence intended PrivatePeeps...just looking for a second opinion).

I'm leaning towards Paymonde (formerly MyVirtualCard), but I've received some mixed reviews for them. Mostly positive however.

Would love to be with Verotel Pro, but I'm trying to keep my startup costs down right now.

                    Thanks!
                    Chris

Well, here's what I found over on Ynot (I hope it's ok for me to quote his post over here. Apologies if not!). A fellow Canuck (member name BryanEx) did some research and here's what he had to say about the Verotel Pro package. Note that all dollar amounts are in Canadian dollars.

                        ----------
                        Verotel Pro

As things stand right now this seems to be a Canadian webmaster's best choice (IMO) if they want to set things up properly with the least admin hassles. They charge double up-front what CCBill does but that includes setting you up as a LLC in the Netherlands. Basically what they have done is to create an umbrella corporation and then list your account as a division of it which meets all Visa requirements. You do not have to provide any EU documentation (Canadian business registration is fine), and there are no on-going maintenance fees. There initial set up fee is $1700 CDN, $8.50 a week is billed to you to cover your Visa registration costs, and they will take 14% of sales as their share. One thing that REALLY appeals to me is that billing revenue flows through what in effect is an escrow account as per Dutch law so your bucks are secure. Verotel has also been around since 98 which speaks volumes on the net. I couldn't turn up a single credible complaint about Verotel paying on time and the only recurring beef was their email support. Live chat, ICQ, phone, and webmaster boards all seemed "okay" but email is iffy depending on who you are dealing with.

First year cost = $2135 CDN
Annual cost (2nd year) = $440 CDN (paid in weekly installments)
                        ---------------------------

I think his post says it all. Definitely my #1 choice, but I don't want to shell out the startup costs until I start to get some members.

Hate to send anyone over to Ynot unnecessarily!

Oh...I've also found that you need somewhat of a U.S. presence if you want to use Securenetshop. U.S. chequing account, etc. That rules them out for me.

I would suggest listening to the guy at amateurcanada

Hey guy I don't usually talk much here..read the board and see whats going...I can tell you right now - dude at amateurcananda is a good fellow ( after all I consider him a friend) and will only lead you in the right direct..not like some on here. And my virtual card is okay in my opinion . What I find with them is just jump on the phone and tell them what you need ( The same as ccbill) better to talk with them and get things done.

Vertrol honestly I do not trust they still owe me money from a year ago..so for me they are are no go! but that is only one experience! Does not mean is happens to everyone...could be some lazy ass rep LOL many reasons

I figure if you have to e- mail them 100 times and they do not reply..ditch them!

Now as for using the term kiddie or anything else in refer to any company is in my opinion...out right stupid since we all know this shit is illegal anyone stepping on that stuff is a sick shit!

Oh yea anyone making claims like this should really produce this kind of evidence and not wing it with word of mouth. Gossip and horse shit can really degrade themselves and another business...honestly show bad judgement and character.

The best advice I will give you is go with what you feel comfortable with after all not every processing company is going to sit well with you or you with them.

I say: Research is key! Be informed and be educated..do not just go with them because someone say so.... do your book work and you will find whats good for you!

Yes I would. They screwed up a simple test transaction and when I asked for a refund they credited the refund to one of my member not to my credit card. So not only did I loose the money from the test transaction but I also lost the money from the subscriber AND they charged me a fee for doing the refund. The amounts were small but the point is that I did not want to trust my money to a company that cannot handle the most basic of functions.

They were handling the transaction for my pay sites and for an herbal suppliment site as well. When I pressed them about the problem they got really defensive and then cancelled my account and decided to hold on to my money for 7 months.

We are talking about small amounts here but the underlying principle is that MyVirtualCard/Paymonde is a group of incompetent idiots that I will never entrust with one cent of my money and I hope to meet them at an industry event so I can tell them face-to-face to kiss my ass.

                                                        Hi

No offense to Verotel as they really have the best user setup and interface and everything is just so easy to impliment. That being said besides the tresure club affliate site I had huge problems getting people to sign up for verotel as an affliate.

Also you can search around on some boards and they pretty much won't even touch some sites using verotel.

As far as Canadians getting ccbill...if you find out how please send me a message and if it works I'll pay you like $500

Oh and don't listen to anyone who says it's as simple as getting the incoperation and paying the fee as you still need resident usa id and the account has to be in that persons name according to ccbill. Which they only told me after I paid all the buisness fees...so for sure don't take anyones word at ccbill for granted without talking to 2 or 3 people there because not too many of them want to talk about it....and some don't even know what they are talking about themselves....very unhelpful.
