i made a semi-serious reply to this thread yesterday but edited it, so let me say again
some nicks used to sell ocassionally in the past, like 2-3 years ago, because outsourcing companies bought them or for sig money actually, cause any random nick with 10k posts could easily sell 'his' sig, but now it's not the case anymore so your nickname is pretty much wortheless even if you want to think otherwise
just think what exactly someone could do with it?
and the nicks that sold in the past didn't sell publically either
