Google payment system

Google Inc., the most-used Internet search engine, will start an online payment system this month that will challenge EBay Inc.'s PayPal and let Google offer more targeted ads, an analyst wrote. GBuy, which will begin on June 28, will handle purchases between shoppers and merchants, RBC Capital Markets analyst Jordan Rohan wrote Friday in a note to investors. Participating sellers will be listed as "trusted GBuy merchant" in Google search results, he said.

Well, it's been ready for launch for a long time, some people here have seen it.

The holdups are always caused by legal issues that need to be ironed out, for instance money transmitter licenses. These need to be filed in each state we plan on doing business, they all have different forms, requirements, fees, etc. Delays delays delays.

It isn't easy, but it's all good. I'd rather launch 100%, then get hit with something later on that could cause a disruption, or worse.

as if everything google touches turns into gold.... Not a big paypal fan myself but it IS themost used onlinepayment system in the world. And google will not change that anytime soon. Yahoo and many others tried it before and no single one ever came close to Paypal.

And nobody cares about privacy issues anymore? They track everything you search, scan every email you recieve, know who you talked to and when and about what, will be watching every single thing you buy with their payment system,...,...,.... all in order to be able to give you some targetted ads? Google scares me more everytime they announce an new product.

Just imagine a person following you arround in the mall, taking notes of everything you watch in the windows, what shops you enter and how long, everything you touch, every conversation you do, everything you buy, how you pay for it etc etc etc.

I wouldn't say that PayPal is doomed - the main reason it is so successful is because it is embedded in eBay: you get an eBay account, and if you want to pay in real-time, they tell you (incessantly) that the most widely-accepted option is PayPal. Not to mention PayPal is integrated easily into every stage of the eBay transaction process, so although payment competitors with cheaper rates are available, people still use PayPal because it is much easier to do so when using eBay, and for some, because eBay use clever pieces of marketing to insinuate that all other payment options lead to fraud, PayPal will be the only method they use.

Good point. I also like the idea of Google taking on Ebay, but only out of spite. I have probably 3 accounts frozen, after they ASSURED me that it wouldn't happen.

But regardless, I don't give a rat's ass unless it makes life easier for me. So far it doesn't seem any different than anything else..... unless i'm missing something.

Competition is healthy and Googles entry into the market can only smarten up Paypal. Fat chance of Google ever catering for porn as they are publicly listed and being known as porn peddlers wouldn't do their image any good.

Google are desperate to keep showing a high rate of return to keep their shares high. Now that they are getting attacked on all fronts by Microsoft and Yahoo, they will have to diversify to keep the growth and this will bring them unstuck. All the synergies they have developed over the years are out the door and with a bunch of computer geeks at the helm, life is sure going to be damn interesting in the next few years. Just sit back and watch.

I'll be even more unpopular with this statement, but microsoft will kick ass and Google will diminish as a force in the next few years.
