That's a damn smart move, especially if you're hurting for bodies and need more cadets to enroll in training to become a police officer.
Not many places where your job consists of riding around in a sweet Corvette all day. ;)
we've got 7 170mph camaros for the state p here. 1 runs around in town here, and 3 of them are stationed a few hours away in a little town. but only because it's like a national drug running hub.
More likely than not the car was seized in some kind of drug bust.
That's usually where they get these cars from.
I've seen different departments use them as promo cars, drive them around school type events making kids think they are cool, and how they got the bad guys car, etc..
If it were any other town in America, maybe it could be a drug bust car. But a wealthy, Detroit suburb probably has a few GM employees living in town, perhaps on the town council. My guess is that it's a nice donation from General Motors.

a guy i knew a while back had picked one up at a police auction for about $500
only problem is it's full of holes from where they pull out the onboard computer, the sirens, the siren switch, the barrier between front n back. and the back doors don't open from the inside.
the car is a boat tho, and souped up too. better engine, brakes, tires, etc.
