Ostrich talk. You can claim it doesn't affect your life directly but that doesn't change the fact that it does.

Almost correct... the people who want to control other people's lives vote in droves, and they vote republican. The people who don't give a shit what other people do are more prone to not even bother voting (and are often the same ones who ignore the news). Your statement is correct with this slight clarification, "the majority of the people in the most productive and powerful nation in the world WHO VOTE vote republican"

                This is the story now.

Why did we even have to play the WMD game? Why not just declare war on Iraq because they supported the group of middle eastern fundamentalist that attacked our country?

Plenty of evidence.. did you know saddam paid israeli suicide bombers families a "bonus" ? This was well before 9/11.

We could argue about the evidence all day long but the end result is saddam was a bad guy who supported terrorism. Does this give us the right to attack them ? i dont know that answer . Are there plenty of other nutjobs like him out there ? yes. Including bush ? yes

Israel assasinated this guy who helped get thousands of jews released from concentration camps.

the man who authorised the assasination was made Prime Minister

if we want to attack terrorists we blow the shit out of Israel and make sure their are no survivors.

Youre all trying to look at this from too small a bubble - this has been going on for thousands of years - and most relevantly - the part about Iraq (formally known as part of the Ottomans) has been going on since the early 1900s
The British, at the end of WW1 took over the rule of Iraq, and in the early 1920s after a civil revolt (where BTW - Churchill advocated using chemical weapons on the Iraqis to quell the revolts - and evidently thousands were killed by the British using it), The British allowed the Iraqis to form a DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT (sound familiar?) with a monarchy and a parlimentary system near alike the British system.
This lasted until the late 1950s when a group of military officers, on their way to back up Jordan in its war with Israel, happened to drop off at Baghdad and take over the country through military power and declared a republic and part of the Arab States - they killed off the king and crown prince - and installed a cabinet headed by Qasim (the military leader at the time in Iraq).

In the early 1960s Qasim was killed off by the Ba'ths and there were different factions within the Ba'th party that were fighting with each other (one of them included Hussein), and fighting againt the Kurds in the north of Iraq

Finally in the 70s, the shar of Iran and Saddam came to an agreement which would calm down a lot of in-fighting among Iraqis (especially Kurds) except for the occasional uprisings (this is where you hear of all these supposed mass executions - which at the time were all reported as just the casualties of war - kinda the same as whats going on with the US troops in Iraq today)

In 1979 -through the support of the USA, Saddam was finally instituted as the supreme leader in Iraq as we needed their help in trying to take down Iran which had gotten out of hand - remember the hostage crisis?

At this point the Shiites in Iran (the Ayatollah etc) and the Ba'ths in Iraq (saddam etc) got into a prolonged war with the Soviets supporting the Iranians and the USA supporting Iraq up until the cease fire in 1988.

A side note - Saddams march into Kuwait was based on the fact that earlier in history, Kuwait was a splinter group of Iraqis who annexed themselves, but actually the land (and its oil) really did belong to Iraq over history - so Bush saying that it was a sovereignty issue was BS just as most of what comes out of hat whole families mouthes

the whole " who owned it first " argument doesnt quite wash..

Canada used to own parts of the u.s. and so did mexico , does that mean its "ok" for canada to invade u.s.a. ? or mexico to invade texas ?

Our boundaries have been set , the days of "invading" countries to gain back previously owned property is over..

That movie is still like the headlines of today ...

Remember the scene in a palace where all the tribe chiefs are supposed to form a " democratic " government ... Nobody agrees to nothing, they all loot the place to the dismal of Lawrence ....

Canada used to own parts of the u.s. and so did mexico , does that mean its "ok" for canada to invade u.s.a. ? or mexico to invade texas ?

I think there have been numerous instances of it lately - from the US invading Iraq, to the British defending the Falklands against Argentina in that little skirmish - all examples of empires trying to defend what they think "should be" theirs.
