So showing some shots without, is kind of a duh, because you can for sure find some shots, in the magazines you suggested and in the celebs you have posted, that have had fake nails. Just because the last few months they haven't in public, doesn't mean they won't ever again.

Celebs follow fashion trends. The fashion finders don't watch Celebs for the next big fashion trend. Celebs are here to help push a trend that has already started some place else.
Celebs start trends now, they are the ones who usually push it to regular people. After Lohan or Simpson wears something, the next day a bunch of people will be online ID'ing the exact brand and make of what they wore and throngs of people will buy the exact same thing.

The internet really revolutionized fashion, its ALL celeb driven and regular people can buy exactly the same shit the celebs are wearing. (some of it is actually moderately priced).

Right now acrylics are considered PASSE. If you look at all the celebrity pics that have been taken within the last 6 months you will find that MOST celebs will not have worn fake nails.

At the fashion message boards I frequent all EVERYONE does is watch celebs for the big fashion trends. At one of the BIGGEST fashion forums (which is a known INDUSTRY Board
worldwide) there is a sub section dedicated to celebs and ALL they do is look at what celebs are wearing every day (new pap pics daily). It is DEFINITELY what drives the trends.

The really avant gard crazy fashionable people make up their own shit but the masses do follow celebs. These days celebs influence fashion MORE Than models.

For example, the trendsetter for most teenagers and young women is LC Conrad from
The Hills from MTV. If she wears something, the next day people will murder and kill and pillage to buy that exact item.

      from an article online :

"Radar ranks fashion's new power posse, and at the top of the list isn't Vogue's Anna Wintour (#17) or designer Karl Lagerfeld (#2), but The Hills' Lauren Conrad. (Also ahead of Wintour: Tyra Banks, the Olsen twins, Us Weekly's Sasha Charnin Morrison, and, um, Rachel Zoe (she did say that she was more important than Wintour in a NYT Magazines profile in September))."

LC is only a reality tv star, not even an actress but her influence is so profound because people follow what she wears and will buy the same shit, she is considered more influential than the fucken editor of Vogue

        thanks, exactly.

unfortunately, young chicks do follow their fashion, even if it is somewhat trashy.

Paris Hilton is known for her really ugly hands and nails. She really isn't the model of upper class style, regardless of her family name. She is as trashy as Britney Spears.

Celebs have always had the most fashion influence, IMO. But true fashionistas will always consider the latest pop-tart trends garbage.

But marketing and pop culture consumerism is interesting stuff.

Black nails! Now I see everyone wearing them now. Black short nails in = fake nails/acrylics out

The celebs are considered fashion influential by how much product they can sell. We might both think a mtv reality star like Lauren Conrad or LC is stupid and lame, but she is SO popular and followed SO MUCH by young people, that she can move A LOT of product, more than any model. She is EXTREMELY popular and ALL the young people follow her on all message boards. I witnessed it first hand.

If she wears something, the next day THOUSANDS of people will buy the same stuff. If a supermodel does, like Giselle, it might will have the same impact, she does not have the same "following" that LC does, young women just idolize her. You completely underestimate the power of certain celebs to move product.

Models do not influence fashion (except for Kate Moss), but that's because she has great style in her daily life. EVERYONE looks at celebs for fashion influence these days, no one cares about models.

Hahaha.... Celebs "follow" they are told what to follow, what to create, and based on what they are being paid or if it's nice enough and free, they will put on anything. When it comes to creating cloths, they are following an exact line from another designer and adding in that Hollywood Celeb twist.

The Fashion industry has people on the ground, in the clubs, in NY, London, Paris, all the hell over watching what the real trends/fashion is. Once they find it, spot it, and see that it has potential they move the information up the tree. If you really think these dumb ladies that can't pump gas are starting anything, then you truly are blind.

Black nails was cool when I was in high school, my girlfriend had them from 10th grade until I broke up with her after high school. So, I guess in some way my little Texas town 15 years ago set the trend for today.

They are doing it so you can't see the yellow crusty nails from tobacco.

Sorry but I'm very stubborn. I like to prove a point because I feel like I am right.

Trading on Hollywood Magic; Celebrities Push Models Off Women's Magazine Covers

                  Some excerpts:

" Linda Wells, the editor of Allure, a monthly fashion magazine published by Conde Nast, assembled her staff for a meeting in early December. The magazine, she said, would be changing its direction, placing more emphasis on celebrities.

Then she lowered the boom: ''Nobody cares about models anymore.''"

                  and

"The shift from supermodel to Hollywood stars and public personalities on magazine covers is the latest sign of Americans' obsession with celebrity. And magazine editors think that preoccupation is the magic bullet that will move their merchandise.

Neil Gabler, a cultural historian who has written widely about the phenomenon of celebrity, said that models had disappeared from the covers of women's magazine because people grew bored with the one-dimensional nature of models, who offer no substance, just beauty. Celebrities, he said, at least offer the illusion of substance.

''When you go to the newsstand now, on magazine after magazine -- whether it's Vogue or Cigar Aficionado -- we see the faces of celebrities looking out at us,'' he said. ''In the eyes of the public, models are unidimensional. They are purely visual, whereas celebrities have these lives we can attach to and they seem more fully dimensional to us.'' "

The celebs dont start the fashions as in the exact product, they are the ones to drive it to the masses and the "common people".

Stars have influence because they have MILLIONS of people who will go out and buy whatever it is that they are wearing, they have the power to move millions of dollars worth of product.

For example, if LC wears a particular shirt, within a few days that shirt will have generated millions of dollars for the maker because so many people will have bought the same thing.

There are people online that have nothing else to do but ID everything celebs are wearing and it sometimes creates a frenzy where everyone will buy the same thing. I am not joking.

Nobody ever really cared about the Models, Celebs has always been what people watched. And what you are "proving" is exactly what I said, they are told what to put on, what the trend is, what is hot and what is not. Why? Because someone is going to make millions and they will get a cut.

They aren't going out and saying, wow I like this black sash thing, I will add this to my mix and blindly make some company millions of dollars. It's all business, and it's all told to them.

black short nails have never gone out of style... they are always around. Black nails are rebellious and cool, those girls are just fashion whores wanting to be hollywood bad girls.

I was painting my nails black when I was 9 years old.

Back to Fake Nails... They aren't out of fashion, they just aren't the in thing with people that have enough money to afford a bi-weekly manicure and don't actually do enough to hurt a nail, so they don't get them.

If you went to the South and told a Southern Bell or Black lady that fake white tips aren't in fashion with Hollywood you would probably get laughed at. Even though she probably has the new Paris purse.
