The level of ghettoness depends on where in Baltimore she moved to. If she moved to the city, then yes its about 70%. But that doesnt mean its all unsafe. I lived in Baltimore County for 22 years and it was fine for the most part. However I'd much more comfortable walking around Compton at night than most of West Baltimore.

Watch The Wire...it's an accurate depiction of the worst parts of the city.

I moved from there to LA last year. The two years I spent in B-more were living hell.

The place in a giant cess pool. My bar was broken into three times. Most people I knew I had been mugged, it is dirty and gross, and I lived in the nicest part of the city one block off the water!!!!!

in one word.. yes! I lived there for a few years.. there are some really bad parts then some.. ok at best parts.. the inner harbor is cool but even there its not so safe. I'll never forget having stray bullets fly through my window 2 days after xmas and when the cops came they basically told u to keep it quiet and coveredup the whole story, cause back then street gangs were doing this "program" called "dont snitch" where they would burn down the houses of anyone trying to stand in their little dope dealing games.. some pastors and teachers and neighborhood watch people got burned and some even killed.. my neighbors were a group of 13 yr old boys that would sit on their front doorstop and sell crack to crackheads all day long. I kept my big 120 lm dog with me, on a very short leash everywhere I went.. soo glad I don't like there anymore

Some of the suburb areas like Towson arent that bad. There is a university there so you have plenty of college kids in that area and its way less "ghetto" then Baltimore.

actually the huge issues stretch much further than just Baltimore.

Baltimore, DC and richmond are 3 of the absolute worst cities in the country to take a wrong turn off the freeway.

I've felt safer getting gas in Gary, IN than any of those 3. Obviously DC has quite a few NICE areas but thats just monument areas.

It's not just that these 3 are insanely BLACK areas but they are very poorly run/managed. Good cops and good education can take a big slice out of the crimes but they simply don't have the funding or the balls to do anything about the problems.

Baltimore is Baltimore, it's like any other big city. York, Pennsylvania city made me feel the same way as Baltimore - trashy and always looking over your shoulder. If you have any sense, you'll stay out of the city unless it's going to Power Plant, Fells Points, Canton or even Federal Hill but even those can sketchy at times. If you go down, always bring a group of people - makes you feel a lot safer.

Basically, if you're going to live here, get the fuck out of the city and move to the county. Towson is great since you've got TSU and Goucher College full of hot Jersey girls ;) and the bars are pretty good, specially on ladies night.

I used to live in Towson and I kinda miss the nightlife. Always felt safe there and never once had any complications.

yup, Atlanta airport area is worse than "normal" for airports. Get up north to places like Minneapolis and you find some pretty damn nice people around the airport. Chicago sucks but most of chicago's population is exactly what you described. Shit the ghetto parts of Chicago have much nicer people than the 'burbs do. I used to get ribs and pizza on the south side after dark frequently and I'm not just talking about that block or to around where the white sox play ;)

I lived in Towson for awhile, def cooler than Baltimore, great nightlife and a couple decent cheap sushi places, but its still dirty and you still have to lock your cars at night.. if she could head out of the city a little more and go down the 70, Columbia is kinda nice and quieter (although there are ALOT OF DRUGS there) and even further down the Frederick area is really nice (but the white people r mostly white trash LOL) I spent almost 9 years in that area, and I won't go back except for Thanksgiving and Xmas.. I feel for ur sis

yeah, if the wire is accurate i'd say its pretty scary. ive been about everywhere in detroit and i'd say its just as bad. me and a friend from detroit drove thru compton and were amazed at how nice and well kept the houses were, i think i must have been in the wrong area.

Fact is if you think you need to carry a knife around then you probably shouldn't be in that area.

Being from the Kalamazoo area its about the same distance between Detroit and Chicago. The Chicago GHETTO is nicer than the nicest parts of Detroit (real Detroit, not the 'burbs).

St Louis is a very black town that I felt perfectly safe in so its not really all about black density. When I took the family out for Ribs obviously we went to an all black area. Sure 4 different people within 2 blocks asked me if I wanted to buy various things like TV's and shit like that but if I were closer to home I like buying "fell off a truck specials"
