I got about 1/3 the way thru Retire Young & Rich, and thought he didn't really say anything after 100 pages. It's still on my shelf. What did you get out of it? Should I pick it up again?

Good writers (or any other area of expertise) are rarely good speakers/presenters for these types of events. It's a shame, because everyone would like to try and glean knowledge from someone they consider an expert, but in my experience, it rarely works that way. The $10 "fines system" is likely a necessary social evil for a professional presenter. Despite the $500-a-seat ticket price, there have likely been countless cellphone interruptions during his speaking tour, and this is his way of enforcing a social stigma against ringing phones while he's speaking. It also makes a cute simultaneous "switch-to-vibrate-mode" moment at the start of the show where everyone in the audience makes sure they're really ready to begin.

There are some good ideas in his original book, but from what I have read elsewhere, the "rich dad" business has been FAR more lucrative for him than his real estate or other business holdings typically were. Maybe similar to how the business of being Donald Trump as a brand (selling books, bottled water, tv appearances, and generic business advice) is easier / more directly lucrative / more interesting than exacting a complex real estate holding and development business.
