That is far from true.

If the customer can see it, it is up to them if they want to check out other sites for a discount. It may or may not be a scam based on the deal they are getting and the site they are joining up to.

Cross sales should be looked at on a case by case basis before you can say they are only to cheat the customer.

And keep in mind, the customer can always uncheck it. NOBODY is forcing them to not look at the entire join page or to not pay attention. I know when I buy something online, I read everything and look at the secure page I'm on. I check it all out, if anything looks hooky, I don't buy. Perhaps what is needed is a smarter class of surfers.
