That sucks bigtime, Jay. So sorry to hear this happened to you.
I must say that whenever I charged stuff to my own room at the cafe in the hotel or the pool bar, I was never asked to show any kind of ID whatsoever or even to show a room key. I thought that was a little lax of the staff.
