i have talked to lesbodojo on icq. she has informed me that skinvideo is moving away from usenet feeds. we all know that there are 1000's of them out there. i have a very strong NG and P2P background and I am very familiar with setting up news services and the learning curve that it takes to do so. not every tom dick and harry can do it. thats why its still tolerated. skinvideo/supported by guba takes the learning curve from the process and ultimately makes it possible for even the most inept person to access anything that is uploaded to the binaries.
here is where they messed up
1) attempted to lie down in the bed where the content is produced. that content is subsequently offered to consumers with no compensation to the people who created it. probably the dumbest thing i have ever seen a company do.
2) attempted to lure affiliates that were promoting programs that produce that content into a scenario where the content producer is cut out and the affiliate gets to sell a la buffet style to all genres of content with one pass.
3) reformatting of the producers content to other formats. ipod etc.
kathleen has been very cooperative, i will not take that away from her.
for the time being guba is still linking to a site that is offering up usenet feeds that gives access to content that is not paid for. affiliates are still sending traffic to this network in turn fucking all of us content producers.
i have been assured by her that the usenet feeds will go away and that members will not be able to upload content that does not belong to them. how the hell they are gonna control that is anyones guess. i see it as impossible. being that the average tolerated clip size for promo material is 30 secs or so, i don't know how they will police some asshole uploading stuff that is whackable and thus cause them not to join our sites where the content resides that was actually paid for by the site publishing it.
i believe kathleen, and i will be the first to accept them once they have a business model that does not fuck over the very people who produce the content that they peddle.
anyone foggy on this issue can icq me and i will break it down for you from the producers standpoint.
i told kathleen i wll not bash them anymore. i would like to know a timeframe of when this will be accomplished.

Face it, if a webmaster is getting 25k hits a day from a trade and that trade uses GUBA, they aren't going to remove it.

Okay -- here it is months later and obviously skinvideo is still selling memberships with the lure of stolen content and forcing people to waste their time policing your site and writing to you to remove content stolen from us.
In the past two days we've found 24 videos ripped out of our members-only areas and posted on skinvideo, and those are only the ones we know about.
We are a couple running a small and very personal business so this is really insulting AND a huge waste of time for us; we don't have a special team of 19 year old wankers we can afford to hire specifically to monitor crap sites like skinvideo. I don't want to hit up some unethical asshole on icq to politely "ask" them to do me the favor of removing content that doesn't belong to them.
