I am from Denmark and here gays get married and have the same rights as straight people, we are not religious in this country and are very relaxed when it comes to gay issues.
What I don't understand is if its a religious thing why not give gays the right to enter a civil union that in the eyes of the state is a marriage, so a gay couple have the same rights and benefits as a straight couple.
I don't believe gays have a right to be married under God, that is for the religions to decide not the goverment.
