              Well, the difference being that prior to becoming dependent on electricity you did not have to worry about things like getting water out of the well with an electric pump.

              If I had a bucket, I would have used it. We just get spoiled being able to store foods for long term. I know it was easier to go without electricity when I had fewer electrical items.

                          We had a power outage a few years back for about 12 hours. Okay I learned everything I wanted to do required electricity. EVERYTHING.

                              Grab yourself a few UPS's, a couple hundred in these toys go a long ways. They can last days/weeks if you use them wisely. You can watch tv, keep a small cooler cold, recharge portable players and laptops, plug it in and run a water pump, run a fan, ect.

                              We have used ours to power our fridge, to give you an idea.
