    Phoenix Forum: Watch out for UltraDNS!

    Watch out for John Ferrel of UltraDNS at the Phoenix Forum

    At the Phoenix forum there will be a guy named John Ferrel selling services for Ultra DNS.
    Before you sign any contracts with them, be sure you talk to me!

    I had a very bad experience with them. You may decide to use their services, but I have a few things you should know about before you sign their 2 year contract.

                                                          (John is VP of sales. I am not claiming he did sexually harass her. I am just saying that will scare the shit out of them.)
                                                          The facts: He was banging her (John and her told me that). She was working under him, and she now hates him and is no longer working there.

                                                          Also, ask

                                                          Didn't you guys do DNS for Dave at SEXTOY.com. I heard that I should contact him before working with you. What do you think he will tell me?
                                                          If the rep is not sure who I am or what I would say, tell the rep to call me or John Ferrel for info.

                                                          I guarantee they will stop calling you

                                                                                              Look at thier client list. Do you think these people made thier fortunes throwing money in a fire? Its not a waste of money. I guess youd have to actually understand DNS to understand why/how thier service can help your company.

                                                                                              A dns server sitting at your hosts DC is not equal to hundreds of them distributed all around the world. Especially if a DDoS attack or the likes were to occur.

They are very persistint and after finally getting a price for there services they wanted to charge me $1700 a month WTF. For DNS. I get DNS for all of Wildcash & wildcash's free hosting servers (1800mbit of bandwidth) and all our wildcash Email services for $125 a YEAR from Nettica.

They claim an up to 12% increase of traffic. Do you really believe your sites regarldess where they are hosted or what dns they use can miss that high % of surfers? I doubt even a 1%

                                                                                                                          2) Setting TTL as ultradns suggests in their spam emails to 1min only makes the changes to propagate faster increasing the time it takes for the surfer to load the page, because all the DNS servers will have to query the DB at least every 1 sec instead of 24 hours as most of our domains are set.

                                                                                                                          3) ultradns lies when they say they manage 34% of world DNS. This means out of 100 domains you'll randomly pick, 34 use ultradns which is far from true.

                                                                                                                              I don't think 35% is right but you calculated it wrong in #3. They are saying they do 34% of overall internet DNS.

                                                                                                                                              However, I can say we've been using UltraDNS for nearly two years now, and it HAS positively impacted our business. We also got an awesome deal locked in early, so I guess don't deal with the other issues people here seem to (high rates and annoying sales reps).

                                                                                                                                              When we first began using UltraDNS, we did have an immediate traffic increase of 5-6%. There must be a reason they have some large sites as clients as well, sites like Amazon, Myspace and eHarmony.

                                                                                                                                              On a personal note, Jon came down to party in Costa Rica with us awhile back and all I can say is he is one crazy motherfucker. We had a blast and he seemed like a very cool guy. That doesn't necessarily reflect on his business side, but that's my opinion here.

                                                                                                                                                  on their name and not on services. They're big enough so they dont care about
                                                                                                                                                  small customers. You have to be paying a shitload if you want to get the
                                                                                                                                                  attention of a level 3 tech.
