Do you realize what the definition of assault is? A police officer can come up to you and sock you in the face, and technically YOU just assaulted him because you physically came into contact with him. Whenver I see the phrase "assaulted a police officer" I always think about episodes of COPS where some random guy gets chased, roughed up by cops, and then charged with assault.Originally posted by damian2001She was actually put away for assaulting the police that arrested her.Cary | AIM: cheesefrog | ICQ: 4287002Comment

Protester is defiant to the last
Hearing delayed over T-shirt; judge gives her 60 days in jail
Saturday, June 03, 2006
Damian G. Guevara
Plain Dealer Reporter
Political activist Carolyn Fisher stood before a Cuyahoga County judge and remained defiant even as she faced jail time for attacking two police officers.
Fisher told Common Pleas Judge Timothy J. McGinty that she was wrongfully arrested and accused McGinty of attempting to silence political dissent and intimidate her.
"Let's get real," McGinty said, pointing a pen at Fisher. "You're here because you've been convicted. . . . I'm not here to listen to your political diatribe."
McGinty ended Friday's quarrelsome, two-part sentencing hearing by sending Fisher to County Jail for 60 days and putting her on probation for two years. Adding to the tense atmosphere were more than 20 of Fisher's supporters, three of whom were kicked out of the courtroom for making political statements or exclamations.
A jury found Fisher, 54, of Cleveland, guilty in April of assaulting two Cleveland Heights patrolmen. The confrontation occurred in January after the officers ordered Fisher to take down anti-Bush fliers she had placed on utility poles. Posting fliers is against city ordinances.
McGinty warned Fisher then that she should be prepared to apologize to the officers at her sentencing, or "bring your toothbrush," indicating that she would be sent to prison.
The bespectacled, silver-haired woman's reply Friday: "You wanted an apology, you wanted remorse -- forget about it."
Friday's drama was the end of a contentious five months. From the start, Fisher and her supporters claimed that police had political motivations for arresting her, and that the officers abused her.
Last month, McGinty sent Fisher to jail because she refused to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and did not show up for a hearing and probation interview. McGinty freed her after she complied.
The tension continued Friday when McGinty angrily postponed a morning hearing because Fisher wore a T-shirt bearing a mock "wanted" poster that included the faces of President George W. Bush and members of his administration. McGinty chastised Fisher and ordered her to come back in different attire.
"We are not here about her protest," McGinty said. "This is not about the war."
While Fisher's lawyer, Terry Gilbert, said he thought McGinty acted inappropriately when he demanded that Fisher change clothes, the court's presiding judge, Nancy McDonnell, said a judge can dictate what is worn in the courtroom to maintain decorum.
Fisher and several of her supporters returned for the afternoon hearing wearing the anti-Bush shirts, but McGinty did not make an issue of it.
Gilbert said Fisher plans to appeal the conviction.Comment

Well, perhaps that's the difference between a real police force and those in the US. "Words" where justified were never a big deal.Originally posted by bliketYeah, see cops will get pissed here in the US if you tell them to fuck off, they are there to keep people like you from getting shot by putting the criminals in jail, you should be thankful that their risk their life for yours. They won't fuck off, they are there for a reason: It's their job to enforce the law and if you post shit on light poles it's a $100 fine (which I am sure she could of avoided by just telling them she wouldn't do it again). If you don't like your fine and assault the police officers it's (a possible) 36 months in jail. It's how shit works.
You told me to speculate dumbass, see:
God.
Don't fucking give me the garbage about police officers protecting me. I got full respect for law officers I know of (in the US) - it's a pity they got to bother about your sicko sorry ass - tho some won't be covering your ass much longer and moving on to more sane territory.
Who gives a fuck if it's $100 dollar fine or whatever - that's all petty shit. And no.. I got no reason to consider assaulting any police officer or anyone - apart from your sad ass
Gawd.. hate to say it... and I'll be a "US hater" for doing so - but there sure are a load of really dumb sicko's there. It sure shows a totally fucked up image of the US. To be honest.. I was fucking shocked to see this bullshit. I never actually knew there was so much apparent hatred in US politics - like it's not exactly common in other countries. It also is of no help or value whatsoever to the US when the country is divided like that.
OK.. there is a "thing" about Bush on an international level - and a kinda fucked scenario. It really does not matter whether what political persuasion Bush is - nobody cares too much outside the US. It has more to do with the actions than any dogma - and it's the actions that folks notice. I doubt there has been... least in recent decades, so much outrage on an international level as there has been over the current admin. It's getting to the stage of where the US is slowly becoming isolated and treated with scepticism - which is not exactly a great thing for anyone.
Apart from that - all folks have their problems - Clinton's was blowjobs, but the world never complained too much - it never caused them problems
PS BTW... There is very little truth to the popular myth "the world hates us"

There's division for different reasons on both sides, from what I can see from my neutral standpoint. I call "bullshit" on Dems when they are just outright lying, and they accuse me of being a Republican. I call "bullshit" on Repubs when they are spinning and lying, and they accuse me of being a hippie Democrat. It's amusing.Originally posted by WebbyYea.. agree edgeprod.

I think the division breaks down like this:
* The Liberals on this board (and other adult boards) tend to be younger kids, with no global perspective, who have, in their adult lives, lived through one or two Presidents -- hardly in a position to draw any conclusions. They parrot some of the subversive elements (usually the most extreme viewpoints) and try to turn black and white cases (like this assault on police officers) into some type of implication that, for example, the police, the judge, the jury, the D.A., and everyone else involved with the case is somehow in a conspiracy to make this woman look either crazy or guilty.
* The Conservatives get pissed by the ridiculousness of the statements by the Liberals (which I think, at least in part) are made just to ruffle feathers (at least I hope, because the extreme viewpoints are a bit hard to justify unless you subscribe to the sheep theory). They start slinging back, and then the Liberals (almost invariably) start flapping their gums about some other nonsense, almost ALWAYS resort to verbal assault and references to Fox News or Bill O'Reilly. It repeats itself until the tread dies.
How does it change any minds or make anyone money? Dunno. Oh well. Both sides look pretty stupid, from my vantage point.Comment

Nothing is a surprise - and speculation over some woman and her posters don't really mean a lot. She and the officers know exactly what happened.

I live in a neighboring city, I read this article in the local news paper today and it's more to it than what I have read here. I didn't read this entire post but basically this woman was arrested for placing anti Bush posters around town which violates a city ordinance. She was found guilty.
Prior to going to court for sentencing the judge gave her fair warning to apologize to the police officers. His words were "prepare to apologize or bring your tooth brush".
During her appearance she was very disrespectful of the court. She defiantly wore an anti Bush and anti administration t-shirt, she was accompanied by a group of supporters who also wore these shirts. The judge recessed court and instructed her to return wearing proper attire. Still, she returned wearing the anti Bush shirt, this time the judge ignored it.
During the proceedings she stated "if you think I'm going to applogize...forget about it". Which sealed her fate.
That's how it went down. She could have avoided jail if she had kept her mouth shut.ICQ: 150-803-430

1.. if she was brutalised by the cops.. why would she apologize?
2... Funny that you said no words about the judge...
"If you are going to insist that crossing borders illegally is a crime which cannot be tolerated, how about George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice (and yes, Colin Powell) and the rest of that gang, with their highly illegal, and violent, 'crossing of the border'-into Iraq, among other places?!"
McGinty then said this was proof of her delusion!
The judge sent her on the prison psych ward and put her on suicide watch... without any reasons... Clearly a tactic to discredit her.. Nothing wrong with that right?Last edited by xxxdesign-net; 06-03-2006, 08:43 PM.Comment
