Ajax is normally, but not always javascript with xml or mysql; however, I have seen it done with regular html

I kind of agree with StuardD that example is not really Ajax...

It's using jQuery, which can be used to give you some Ajax stuff, but in this case it's using jQuery for a CSS animation.
