Dodgers are just notorious for picking up players passed their prime and overpaying them, ie, Jason Schmidt, Kevin Brown, Andruw Jones, to name a few.

While I agree on the picking up old players, they arent paying Manny anything so they definitely arent over paying him. Plus its not like his skills are greatly deminishing like the others you mentioned. He is the best bat the dodgers have had in a while and was greatly needed. There was a log jam at 3B anyways.
