    Laptop in hot car

Will it kill a laptop to leave it in a hot or cold ( in the winter ) car?

One time I left my wallet on a black dash of a black car for a few hours in 100 degree heat.. When I went to get it, all my credit cards were almost liquid, gravity was bending them.

Yeah you definitely want to keep it away from extreme heat (e.g., hot car) and extreme cold.

                          you'll be fine. It's ok. shouldn't be a problem.

You people are aware how the solder electronics to the mother boards, yes?

I wouldn't leave it on the dash. I would hide it under the seat. I was thinking about a cheap $500 laptop.

Don't think extreme heat would be good for the screen though

Will sub-freezing temps do it any harm?

You'd probably be more likely to run into issues if there was a sudden change in climate while, or just before, the laptop was powered on...

There could be issues with mechanical devices such as CPU fans and HDs starting up in very cold temperatures, but once they're running the residual heat generated by the laptop should keep things warm.

On the flipside, if it's a permanent installation try to figure out some way to shroud or protect it so there's never any direct sunlight on the case.
