Interesting thread. There's a correlation between the distance an ethnic group travels to emigrate and their income level in the US. Due to travel expenses, this selects for middle class professionals. Of course, refugees don't fit this correlation.
Another trend mentioned by Thomas Sowell in Ethnic America is that even within most ethnic groups, later arrivals tend to make more money than 2nd or 3rd generation members of their ethnic group.
