Los Angeles, specifically Chino Hills in nearby Riverside County experienced a 5.8 earthquake around noon today. 5.8 is generally considered a relatively good one, but not catastophic.
It is big enough, however, to cause a lot of phone traffic, so cell phones, land lines etc are spotty. At least now we know we have another 10-14 years before the next good one.
