interesting on PAID LINK reporting to Google

this current article and comments by Matt Cutts (publicist for Google) on paid links being reported for buyers and sellers is quite interesting:

    http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/two-search-tidbits/

"By the way, we?re currently caught up on paid link reports, so if you know of sites (maybe in your search niche) that appear to be selling or buying paid links that pass PageRank, it?s a great time to let us know. Use the authenticated paid link spam report form and someone will investigate the report. We?ll be concentrating primarily on the sellers, but if you send us a site that appears to be buying links that pass PageRank it?s trivial for us to look up all the backlinks"

I a buy a lot of text links, with targeted text, because they produce traffic and sales.

        Google can lick my nuts.

Do you get (extra) traffic from Google because of that? If so, they'll have your nuts in a vice when they figure it out...

Sounds like Google might want to take some of the link weight away. Put it more on the actual text on the pages.

supposedly many sites have been spanked by google for selling links

I've heard of a few that lost alot of PR overnight

Yes, but... I'm not doing it "for google" listings, and I'm not buying spam slots on trash pages. But either way, it effects me and it already has. I was doing this way before google came around, and way before google got the surfers of the net to be part of the algo.

At an automated level, what I'm doing isn't wrong. At a human viewed level - you can easily think I'm doing this to screw with listings.
