    Wirelss Connection for laptops higher?

    right now my wireless chip internally is only picking up 54 mbps. How do i get a new chip? Who sells them? I just bought the best linksys router that has dual band like antennas and shit crazy and the wireless chip is not good i guess. Does anyone know where I can get a better chip?

      what kind of laptop?

          If it's higher than 54 Mbps it'll probably be draft-N and you'll need the same/compatible draft-N gear to get it to work at higher speeds, which in the case of a laptop, probably means a mini-PCI card.

          Out of interest, why do you want a faster wireless connection? Surely you don't have that fast an Internet connection, and for anything serious over a network, you'd be better off with Gigabit Ethernet anyway.

              I bought the linksys 10/100/gigabit ethernet WRT600N

              I have a great connection and its good on the wireless 54mbps but i want more range for the wireless, I want to be deep in my backyard and still be pushing buttons. Also upstairs we connect the laptop to the 60' HD and watch movies and shit like that.

                  If you don't want to invalidate your warranty by trying to find a compatible draft-N mini-PCI card, you should just get a Linksys draft-N USB 2 adapter and use that instead of your laptop's built-in wireless.

                      check if they put the wireless chip on a compact pci card that you can replace.

                          why cant i buy an internal new centrino or another brand chip for wireless that gets better range? Where would I buy that?

                              The new centrino 2 laptops come by default with the N standard. Time for a new laptop.

                                  You can - all the "Centrino chip" is, is an Intel-approved mini-PCI card that you can usually replace yourself. I could probably help you further if you post your laptop make and model number so that I can look into what your upgrade options are.
