I didn't see the fight but my brother ran it down to me.

Basically Matt had Royce in an arm-bar and Royce wasn't having it...my bro thought Matt was going to break his fucking arm but Royce slipped out of it.

He said Matt side mounted him then somehow got Royce's back, wrapped and locked his legs around Royce's waist and just pounded both sides of his head until the fight was stopped with about 30 seconds left in the first round.

Guess I'm just not into the sport, because watching that video was about as fun as watching two beetles fight. I did get to catch an WFC fight once, ringside, and that was pretty sweet. I think it was the first or second match where there was drops of blood on the table next to me. Dunno. I'm sure the fight in this thread was sweet to watch in person, but on video, it just didn't do it for me.

Anyway, I guess this is just a bump.

I still say this was a fixed match... no way a 5th degree BJJ black belt would give up his back so easily

Mad props to Gracie though for toughing out the arm bar and not even showing the pain, I don't know many people that could do that

I was very dispointed in the lack of effort that Gracie put it. It looked like a instructor teaching a student.

Matt Hughes is simply 10x the fighter gracie is. He's stronger, more versatile and dare i say it better at submissions. Gracie's style is old and outdated. Royce is just plain old. I though Hughes would dominate and he did. Hughes is the best MMA figher in the world and proved it again.

You obviously have not seen Fedor Emelianenko in action. Hughes best in the world? Possibly in his weight class, but pound for pound, definitely not.

I guess you guys don't even no what the cliches you are saying mean. Matt Hughes is definitely a better fighter than Fedor "pound for pound". Fedor has not dominated his weight class the way Hughes has. He has won all of title matches (5+ or so) with relative ease. Even easily beat what many consider the best fighter ever. Fedor would probably beat Matt in an open weight tournament but Fedor does have a 100 pounds or so on him. I would still give Matt a chance in this fight though. The kimura can beat anyone.

About the fixed thing, it could make a lot of sence. I just don't see how Gracie could get out of the armlock ... so maybe it was planned to make it look like he got hurt really bad and didn't tap just so he can loose later on.

Allthougt, maybe his arm was just really broke and he lost sence of reality after it happened, it must have hurted like a bitch if this is the case, and he definitly would have tried to hide it (so others don't try to win because of this injury in later combats).
