Steven King is losing it.. Hes a fruit cake to boot...
Still dig his shit though
The ending of Stephen King's original book is different though. Frank Darabont came up with the new one. Before using it, he first proposed it to Stephen King, who absolutely loved it.

Those who couldn't appreciate the ending of The Mist are the reason movies are focus-grouped into formulaic mush. If every story ends the way audiences think it's supposed to, where's the suspense?

The ending of the movie sucked, a cheap shot on the main character just for the fuck of it apparently. The ending of the book was much more ambiguous, and they probably thought it wouldn't be satisfying to the moviegoing public since they need everything wrapped up in a bow.
SK hasn't always shown the best judgement regarding his books being made into movies. He thought the kmart version of The Shining that came out recently was better than Kubrick's version, which is just ridiculous.

I loved The Mist. My expectations were low, and I was pleasantly surprised. Hey, I didn't walk into the theater expecting an Oscar contender - just another shitty horror movie. And as shitty horror movies go, I was pretty entertained.
I didn't like the CGI stuff, but I enjoyed the story. And I, for one, loved the ending. I get tired of the uplifting "hero overcomes all odds" endings that are so cliche in American movies.

I've loved SK since the original release of Salem's Lot, but I'm starting to think he's been run over by one too many minivans.
