I get the impression most of these high cost seminars are usually to pitch you to buy more stuff from them. ie: more books, training guides, etc. etc... But please do let me know if it's worth the cost, I'd be interested in knowing.

Kiyosaki is one the most underrrated financial minds of our time.

Even though he is so well known and regarded, SOOO many in the financial industry just ignore his teachings.

                Enjoy mate !

Hehe well Rich Dad has made me alot more than $500 (the cost to attend) so I think the least I can do is throw a little money back his way. ;)

That's a huge over-statement, as far as I know, he doesn't have anything going for him except his "rich dad, poor dad" books/tapes/seminars/etc. I got a chance to read/listen some of his books, they give some decent advice, but they have this oversimplified late-night-infomercial feel to them. The information he presents is VERY vague, often incomplete or even misleading. He should be viewed more as a motivational speaker, rather than a "financial mind" in my opinion.

Next time we see each other in person you bring your portfolio and I'll bring mine....

NOT to compare size at all, but to compare GROWTH in the same periods since I implemented his strategies.

I have NEVER heard the man speak, I have read 3 of his books (Rich Dad, Poor Dad about 8 times) and once you learn how to play the "Cashflow" games you have mastered his PHILOSPHIES.

So you see you are right, some ARE vague, because he is not continually specific, his teachings are generalities in many cases .. they still have to be applied.

So see WOJ, IMHO I think you missed his points entirely - and that is what I meant by his advice being lauded but largely ignored. They are PRINCIPLES he teaches, not get rich quick or feel better about yourself palava.

The most useful information in business and in life is usually the simplest.

This man ain't no Anthony Robbins.

I went to a seminar of his.. just rehashed all the stuff from the books. I'm also unimpressed by the books (I got dragged to the seminar).. It's pretty much investing 101.

exactly... he's a good motivational speaker.

writing a book that basically says "hey man, stop blowing money on stupid shit and real estate is a good investment" is hardly revolutionary.

Please do let us know your impression of the presentation. The original "Rich Dad Poor Dad" is back on my 'must re-read' list for the third time. Whether or not you can take his advice as a direct how-to, or simply a motivating force with generalized strategies - certainly everyone can find a bit to gain out of the first book?

For many people the concept of Passive Income is completely unknown or unattainable. I imagine we in the adult industry enjoy a more progressive, self reliant existance (for the most part). Perhaps that is why his theories and ideas come across as too vague to many on the board. Most of us have already been hit by the proverbial lightning bolts, "Work smart, not hard" and "Make the money work for *you*" (as corny as they may be). The books are marketed to the general population, most of which have never considered creating income from anything but an established business they rely on or time logged on a timecard.

Personally I enjoy the more generalized motivation from time to time. And then go back to more specialized business topics and reading materials. Can be a nice expansion of your focus for a bit imo - although admittedly I'm no expert

                                                    Enjoy the seminar!

not going to say i agree with everything anyone says - but Robert has a LOT of good info in what he talks about. Read a few of his books and lliked and agreed with most of what I read - few authors do that to me when talking about financials.

I remember when Kiyosaki changed my life ;) he he it's actually true, no joke. He was on Oprah which basically launched his career. He was talking about passive income, etc. I actually have the episode still on tape, this was over 6 years ago. I was at University and what he said made a lot of sense. Nearing the end of school, I bought a rental, rented the basement to students and lived upstairs rent free. I had no job, no money, nothing. I borrowed some from my mom and got a good mortgage broker. After 2 years and still no steady job I decided that if I could rent out the whole house I'd move out and find something else. I had no ideas where, but at worst, I would rent an apartment because I could do if for cheaper then what students were renting for.

I ended up buying a house with unfinished coach house at the last minute. I used loans and last months rent from my other rental for the downpayment. I renoed the coach house and rented it out. I think renoed the main house into a duplex and lived in the upper unit. I now live here rent free and make passive income from my other house. One unit there, pays the mortgage and the rest is profit (which I recovered as last months rent and paid off my reno expenses and downpayment). I make enough to cover passively, all my basic needs, rent free and food, utilities, transportation etc. I even save quite a bit and it's easy to save since I dont really have to work for it. I put in about 4 weeks work total each year on my rentals. I have since registered all my rentals with the city and upped there value considerably. I've made more in equity and paid down more debt through my tenants then any normal person could save from working 24/7.

I also recognize that Kiyosaki and Rich dad is not a true story (see Reed's comments, someone had a link on him). BUT I do also know that it does work and passive income, although rare, does exist. I just look for the right property, that makes money today or that I can convert to make money today. I'm about 2 years in between properties right now and that's about how long it takes to find a good deal. It blows my mind that so many people work day in and day out to make ends meet. Eventually I'll work up to a luxury lifestyle on passive income. It's the only way to go.

When we got there there were approximately 500 people (whom all paid $500 each) waiting to get into the seminar room. When we got in there Robert came on stage and everyone went Woohooo and cheered. He went over his past and how he overcame conventional wealth wisdom to get where he is now. Soon after that he started laying down the rules of the seminar

                                                                                          - no standing up to go to the washroom or you have to walk up to the stage and give him $10
                                                                                          - no beverages or food in the seminar room (even though they supplied water IN the actual seminar room) or you will have to pay him $10
                                                                                          - no disturbances in the seminar room or you pay $10
                                                                                          - If your cell phone goes off you have to pay $100

Basically you did anything other than sit there and listen to what was going on you had to pay him money which he said went to putting "Cashflow Games" into school systems LOL! If you don't know already he OWNS the Cashflow game ;)

Anyways this asshole was very abrasive to many people in the crowd including one young asian man who asked a question about equity in his property to buy other propertys and if he should do that or not. Rich Dad ridiculed this poor kid infront of 500 people and would not let up. I honestly was so pissed off I almost got up and left (But that would have cost me $10 LOL!)

We spent 3 hours playing Cashflow with other members at our table and he would get us to discuss what he said every 10 minutes. Luckily I had some pretty cool people at our table but we all felt that Rich Dad was a jerk and a total egomaniac. I even went to talk to one of his employees and inform him that i didn't like the way that young man was spoken to and ridiculed and that he was owed an aplology. The employee said that Robert is very "raw" and says things like that all the time... I told him, well I guess money can't buy him class because he's a fucking asshole LOL! They didn't like that much! Hahahaha! It seems they are all brainwashed by this idiot and are under the idea that since he's worth quite a bit he can treat people like trash.

Long story short he went over NOTHING new and just rehashed how great he was and everything in the book. He tried to upsell the crowd on his other books and games at every turn and you were constantly bombarded with promotional information from wealth advisors that were local in the area.

In addition to all of this you could not hear a damn thing in the back part of the seminar and they had to fix the audio system like 3x before the afternoon. You figure $250,000 in tickets would buy you at least a somewhat decent speaker system LOL! The guy beside me wanted a partial refund because you could barely hear what the guy said. Plus the video system did not work so you could not see him on the big screen.

My review - He's a total fucking asshole and I will not spend one more penny on any more of his books. The only good books I found were Rich Dad Poor Dad, Cash Flow Quadrant and Retire Rich ad Retire Young. Don't bother going to any of the speaking events unless you want to be treated like a child and you like being berated infront of large audiences. Total waste of my money but hopefully Cameron (who has never read any of the books) will get something out of this.

                                                                                          DH

P.S. I actually got to get up and pose questions directly to Rich Dad in the morning and I got a round of applause when I said I had purchased 10+ properties using his system and one of his aides asked for my card for him. Maybe he wants to put me in his success stories book, but if that motherfucker calls I will tell him where to go... Plain and simple.
