Being a designer, you should get a S-IPS LCD monitor or better.

Look under buyers guide there and you'll see a big list of good LCD monitors. The guide there also explains the difference between certain LCD panels.
Also when it comes to buying LCD monitors always go some where locally with a good return policy and forget buying it online *especially* at newegg.com. They have a horrible return policy for lcd monitors and don't give a fuck if you have dead pixels on your new monitor unless it's 8 or more.
