So, today my 12yo graduates from elementary school, and it's the last day for my 4yo in head start, so I dressed the girls up in pretty dresses and myself in a nice suit and we walked out the door about ten minutes later than usual, but I allow an extra ten minutes, so I'm still not LATE, just later than normal.
I go to drop off my oldest daughter at Head Start, which is on campus of one of the county's high schools. As I'm coming around the parking lot corner, I see a van stopped in front of the JROTC area. People get dropped off and picked up there all the time, because it's the only covered area around the pick-up/drop-off loop. So, I stop for a second, and the van is just sitting there, so I figure they are picking up or dropping off, and I go around the van to the left. I get to where my front end is about even with the opening side of her driver door, and she whips into me, apparently trying to pull into a parking space on the other side of me. I saw her coming, and I slammed on my brakes..if she had done the same, we wouldn't have actually collided. For a second, I thought she was going to stop, but she didn't.
So, anyway, I'm pissed off, but no one is hurt, and since we were in a parking lot, speed was as minimal as it gets. I get my daughter out and tell my son to walk her down to her class, and I was calming my daughter down, telling her, "It's ok, it was just an accident, everyone is ok" etc. Before they walk away, that bitch who hit me comes over and starts bitching at me for "going too fast".
I was like, "What? Lady, I was stopped behind you for a second, tell me a truck you know that can go from 0-15mph in half a car length!"
So she says she has a witness. I said, "Good, you can both explain why you were looking at my speedometer from a van in front of me instead of avoiding crashing into me!"
Now I'm furious, and I decide I'd better pull into a spot and roll my window up and sit in my truck until the cops come, because I'm tempted to crash into this bitch's face like she just crashed into my truck, heh.
My mom and brother were on their way to my son's graduation, so I called them and asked them to pick my son up and take him to school so at least he doesn't miss his graduation. He started crying when he realized I may miss it because of having to wait on paperwork.
Meanwhile, the deputy showed up, and let me tell you, it is a disgrace that I am paying taxes for that piece of shit's salary. My mistake was apparently not getting to him first, because he went to the other party, heard their side of the story, (which I'm sure was full of shit, since they immediately accused me of speeding when I clearly wasn't), came over to me and made a snide comment like "You must have been in a hurry" but in a really nasty tone.
I said, "Actually, no I wasn't, I had a good ten minutes to get a half mile down the road. She must have been in a big hurry to park."
Then he asks me for my side of what happened. I get as far as "I thought she was parked there to let someone out or pick someone up." and he shouts at me that he works that school and people don't drop off and pick up there.
I said, "Yes, they do, because I have to navigate around them twice a day, 5 days a week, to get to the other end of the parking lot."
He says, "There is no line down this road, so it a not a two lane road and the law says you can not pass."
I said, "It's not a road. It's a parking lot. And every single day, a line forms to pick up or drop off, and every day, anyone who is leaving the campus, or needs to park at the other end, drives around the line of cars."
He says, "She had her directional on." I say, "No, she didn't." He says, "I have two witnesses who say she did." I say, "Sure, her, and her passenger!" and I turn to my son and ask him if she had her directional on. He says no, she didn't, because he was watching the van to see if a cute girl was going to get out, so he was looking right at it. (Side note, LMFAO!) I say to the deputy, "There, now you have two witnesses who say she didn't."
I never got to finish telling him what happened, but apparently he decided he knew enough to write me a ticket for improper passing.
He never once let me finish a sentence after the few above. I had to ask him 5 or 6 times if he was going to let me finish or let me answer him, which of course just invoked another line of abusive or just nasty verbal diarrhea (sp?) from him. For example, he asked for my address. I hesitated, because A) I JUST moved; and B) my truck is still in my dad's name-I inherited it-and it's registered at my parent's address. So I start to just say that- "do you want the address I live at or the address the technical owner of the truck lives at" (which would be my mom since Dad's will left everything to her to distribute as she saw fit.). But he cut me off and shouted "Just give me your address!" And I was crying and telling him I was trying to tell him but he won't ever let me finish anything I say, and he just kept bitching me out for giving "too much information"! Well, sorry, fuckface, I don't get in accidents with lying c*nts and get verbally bitch slapped by crooked ass officers every day, so I'm a bit shaken up. Exuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me.
So, by this point, my mom has arrived and stayed with me while my brother and son go on to school. I explained what happened to her, and she thinks it's BS that I'm getting the blame, too. She says, "She hit you, you didn't hit her. She parked, not in a parking spot, then pulled in front of you. Seems pretty cut and dried to me." I said, "yeah, if he would have let me tell him what happened, maybe he'd agree."
Now it's five minutes until graduation, so my brother comes back for my mom, and I send the camera with them in case I miss it.
A few minutes later, he gets out, comes over, and says "you're almost done." And I said, "Thank you, because my son's ceremony starts in two minutes." He said he knew and he was trying to get me out of there. So, now, even though he's a shit-sack, I'm trying to be nice because it appears he is trying to get me out of there in time. So, he hands me the ticket, gives me the whole "it's not an admission of guilt" line, and I sign it. He says it's a moving violation with a fine of $118. I ask how I fight it. He says call the clerk of circuit court. I say, "Thanks, I'll see you in court. Have a nice day." He says, "Fine, they pay me for that too." (I wanted to say, oh they pay you to treat residents of this county like shit, too, I see. But I didn't, because I was trying to be as nice as possible while still maintaining my position.) So, I start my truck. He was walking away from me, but he whipped around, and SCREAMED at me, "I'm not done yet!" I said sorry, but sarcastically, I admit. He walked over the accident report and I gave him the wide eyed innocent look, batted my eyelashes and said in one of those syrupy sweet voices, "May I leave now, sir?"
Ugh. I can't believe that hahahaha lied. And I can't believe that waste of flesh officer treated me like such a piece of shit.
I am supposed to teach my kids to respect police when they stand there and treat me like that? What do you think that cop just created in the 12 year old sitting beside me? I'd bet you $20 my son hates cops right now. Not to mention that it undermines a parent's authority when you treat them like that, so I have to make sure I don't have things get out of control because I just lost some of my authority with my kids.
I've never been arrested, never had an accident..haven't even been pulled over in five years. Not that it would make it ok for him to treat me like that it none of those were true, but at least I could somewhat understand the motivation, I guess. But for him to treat an upstanding citizen like that, over a fender-bender, is just reprehensible. I wonder if he treats rape victims like they deserved it, or if he treats robbery victims like they asked for it. I can't imagine someone like him being the kind of protective entity a deputy is supposed to be to people who have been victimized.
I did make it to my son's graduation in time. And he received awards for scoring high on his FCAT, too.
