Decently priced adult friendly virtualhost (not WebAir).

I've had my fill; I've been with WebAir nearly a month, and they've been down for at least hour at a time every week since I've been with them, usually every three days. I opted to give them one more chance, as they managed to keep the machine running a full week this last time, but I'm tired of empty promises with no resolve.

Right now, the one good thing I can say is that WebAir allows many domains, SQL databases, and a shell account for about $20/mo.

However, since I'm trying to build out my sites, I can't have an hour of downtime whenever they decide to re-overcommit the same goddamned machine, again.

Shell access is a big plus, since my homebrew gallery and DB backups are run from crontabs.

There's basically what I'm looking for:

Shell access to run cron jobs and manual gallery generation (Just PHP and libgd used for this)
The ability to pass php variables and values in .htaccess (This is usually offered, but is sometimes turned off) This is much easier than hacking everything to try to use ini_set, or worse, rewriting all of it..

e.g.

DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
<rewrite stuff>
</rewrite stuff>
php_value register_globals off
php_flag zlib.output_compression On
php_value zlib.output_compression_level 5
AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .html
php_value auto_prepend_file /path/to/my/filehandler.php

Other than that, I'm willing to live with CPanel, as much as I detest it. ;)

I spoke with Jim, who's a great guy - despite being overwrought with my geeky questions, and have opted to go with tier2. They have a decent backbone, and I KNOW all of the laws of my country.

End result: Traffic more than doubled with absolutely no extra advertising or optimization - pages aren't taking so long to load they're canceled; no more bogus 503s; no more 'random downtime' every couple of days.

I think I'm in love - and no icky discharge! It takes so little, these days.

I've been using Dreamhost, but after getting kicked off my other host I'll be buying a reseller package somewhere - maybe on WebAir (they are only 20 minutes from me)

I'd love to rent a half rack at Level 3 via Co-Location.com... Just can't justify the cost yet

Amazing to see so many people with hosting problems. DreamHost is kind of like a 'Nightmare on Elm Street' episode from all I hear at webhostingtalk.com. Finding a good quality host always seems to be a hard find but options abound. I'll try to do a review on our host at some point now that I'm finally signed up here instead of just reading posts. Time to give BACK! ;)

DreamHost are cheap as anything (especially with the coupon GOFUCKYOURSELF to get $97 off), but their servers are probably the slowest around and the disable certain PHP features with URL wrappers, such as copy(), which can require hours to work around with much stress.
