I guess it depends. If they get a nuclear weapon and then use it, sure they are a threat.
Say they nude Israel. That is about the only place they could unless they could smuggle it into the US (or another country) and detonate. You know Israel is going to fire some nukes back. It will be over very quick. I would think Israel would turn most of Iran into a parking lot in a matter of minutes with their bombs. This will undoubtably anger some of the more militant arab states and could start an all out war where they attack Israel. We would then come to Israel's defense and there might be other countries like China, India or Russia that would then accuse us of trying to overrun the middle east in order to get all the oil and that could lead to more conflict.
More than likely though they are just talking tough. I think if there are any strikes against them they will be stratigic strikes to take out their nuclear facilities and I think we will have a broad base support for that action. If Iran then declared war the only thing they could do is invade into Iraq or Saudi and we could part our navy off their coast and bomb them into the dark ages. But again this could lead to more war in the area.
What they need to do is allow all their facilities to be under constant watch by the UN that way they can have nuclear power and we don't have to worry about them making WMDs.
