PET OWNERS!! What Does Your Pet Cost You Per Year?

My dog has an allergy to grass and gets really itchy. I've had him to the vet numerous times about this. I had to take him again today coz he was really scratching and I feared it might be something worse. The Vet assures me that its only an allergy and I just need to keep applying the cream. Today he gave him a jag tho and I had to get worming tablets as well. $110 it cost me again today. Got me thinking about how much he costs me per year.

Its funny how I won't think twice about taking my dog to the Vet at the smallest sign of something wrong with him. It ends up costing me a fortune, but if I have something wrong with myself I won't go bother a doctor.. I just ride it out until it goes away or gets serious LOL.

Whats the most your pet has cost you?

What I recommend is when the vet wants to give them a prescription.Ask for a paper one and fill it online. You can save a shitload of money. On somethings as much as 60-70 percent less.

Hum.. We have an iguana, and there is ONLY ONE Vet who can take care of her. And she knows we're good parents, so she can charge whatever she wants, she know we'll still say yes rather than putting her to sleep...

Only on Vet we're close to 2K so far for a pet we bought for 50$.. LOL

wow allergic to grass, now that's a tough one, especially when it's walking after meal time.

I have 2 chihuahuas, since we got them 1.5 year ago, I just tabulated it and we are up to $10k, that includes health insurance, spaying, neutering, food, boarding, 4 surgeries for one of them. Damn, that's a shitload of cash for 16 lbs of dogs

WOW 10K is a lot in 18 months. My dog must have cost me close to $5000 in food, insurance, vet bills, things he destroyed in my house. He ate my flooring in my kitchen 5 times at a cost of $200 each time to replace it LOL. He doesn't do that anymore thankfully. They must know we're big saps and won't mind paying out all our hard earned cash LOL.

I think the main reason for the grass causing him itching is when I just cut the grass in my garden he can't resist running out and rolling around in it. Guess from now on I need to keep him in that day I just cut the grass.

Most shots here are free, and they even come by the house to do them. So very little. Food for the dog costs the most. The bird, eats people food.

Food and medicine costs me about $600 per month for 3 dogs.

SO More than $7000 a year before Vet visits are factored in.

Thats insane Warchild. I'd spend that on my dog tho if it kept him fit healthy and as much fun as he is now. He's worth every penny I spend on him. I guess you feel the same for your dogs..

I just ride it out until it goes away or gets serious LOL.

my dog i spend about 35 a month on in food, i don't do the vet thing.. i got her from the humane society she was fixed already, gave the puppy shots myself at 5 bucks a round versus 110, and i only took her in for a rabies shot and some routine tests... my coral reef aquarium on the other hand is a killer.. i don't even know the exact cost but with electric, salt, food and reverse osmosis water all the time, it's gotta be like 60 a month to keep and I slack on the water changes even..

I took my dog to another vet for tests and it's not the grass but the saliva from flea bites. Even if your dog uses flea drops they will still get bit in the grass by fleas. I got a different medication and for the first time in years Homey is happy in the summer.

Your big dog sure looks very happy! This is the second vet I've had him to and both had diagnosed him with the same thing. Kinda put my mind at rest, but just to be sure I might take him to a third vet for peace of mind. Out of curiosity what did you do once you nailed down the problem with your dog? Even if the third Vet tells me it is grass allergy, I could still get the medication your dog had and try it out if my Vet thinks its worth a shot.

                                                                    Thanks.

Definitely going to insure all my future dogs.

I have always spent a lot of money on both dogs. Husker is so active she gets hurt a lot. Lola had not had a lot of vet bills until recently. They both do have dog insurance, which really does save a lot. Both dogs have been diagnosed with hip dysplasia this year. Lola was also has last three vertebrae fusing together which causes arthritis. She also had impacted anal glands. So they are both on a lot of pills right now and geting VOM treatments from the vet. For those of you that do not know what VOM is, there is a brief description below.

Many of the problems that veterinarians treat are vague and hard to define because our pets can’t tell us what is going on An emerging field in veterinary medicine is a version of chiropractic manipulation for animals known as veterinary orthopedic manipulation (VOM). Unlike the typical human chiropractic adjustment, which requires awkward positions and quick forceful movements, VOM uses non-invasive, even enjoyable treatments for your pets. Not only are the treatments extremely effective, but because of the differences in the nervous system of humans vs. animals, we are able to use the treatment for diagnostic purposes.
