Many people will argue each side of this argument to the death, but I believe people fail to miss the key points.

Yes, you should ideally have 50 separate class C IPs if your blog network consists of RSS fed blogs, or essentially blogs with duplicate content. The separate class C's help prevent their banning due to duplication of content within the search engines.

No, you do not need 50 separate class C IPs if your blog network consists of blogs that feature unique content. It is also best to have separate domains, different niches, etc. This will help ensure that the search engines view each site independently.

In addition, how you link the sites is key as well. It is best to employ ABC or ABCD linking when using the same IPs to help keep individuality of the sites.

I'm sure many people will come and say this is BS, blah blah blah, but you should ultimately try different configurations and track the results to find what works best for you and your sites.
