                They will not refund your money from that round trip to Phoenix to Houston and back, but it was a mistake of the traffic agent to send you with that passport...

                Did you talk with any manager in Houston?, Did he/she see your passport? or it was just a traffic agent decision?, because in those cases is a MUST to call a manager or supervisor....

                The worst part is your luggage and maybe you need to pay a penalty for change the date of your flight... Ask them when you change your reservation!!

                                                    You can afford vacations in Europe but not a new passport? A passport in 2 pieces is not valid, its simple. They decided to respect laws this time and didnt let you in, man its your fault not theirs. What if you were a fraudster using a fake ID, they just did their job.

                                                            I had a damaged passport, and got it replaced in a day. There is a majopr passport office in Houston, you could have taken a cab over there and had a new one in 24 hours.

                                                                Thats why I carry two passports whenever I travel, one American and one EU.
                                                                Nice to have a back up, by default I never travel Int'l on US passport anyhow, I keep it stored away as a back up.

                                                                Mainly I have it so if I get into a shitty situation and need a US embassy. :-)

                                                                                    It was about 7pm on Friday, I didn't feel like waiting in Houston until Monday to get a new passport, then try to fly again on Tuesday. Half my vacation was already screwed, so I came home.

                                                                                        I understand your point, but I have used that same passport (in the same condition) multiple times this year. It is not in "two pieces" -- the back cover is partly seperated from the back page.

                                                                                        I was more upset that I showed the passport in Phoenix, and they let me go to Houston with it anyway knowing all along I was heading to Europe.
